Ariel Reboyras is alderman of the 30th ward of the City of Chicago;he was first elected in 2003. [1] [2] He was previously a deputy commissioner in the general service department. [2]
Ariel Reboyras was born in New York City in 1953. Of Puerto Rican descent,Reboyras moved to Chicago with his parents at the age of twelve. Reboyras attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where he was Co-Captain for the UIC Flames baseball team. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education,he taught at Roberto Clemente High School in Chicago's neighborhood of Humboldt Park.
Ariel began his career with the City of Chicago as a truck driver. Reboyras worked his way up into other areas of city government- first as an Equipment Dispatcher,then with the Tank Remediation Program for Fleet Management,an Equipment Coordinator for the Water Department where he assisted with design specifications for the Fleet Management Division,until finally being promoted to Deputy Commissioner for the Department of General Services. In 2003 Reboyras ran for the seat previously held by Alderman Mike Wojcik in Chicago's 30th Ward. Reboyras won the election and was sworn in on May 7,2003. [3] Reboyras was later reelected to serve another term as alderman in 2007.
In 2010 Reboyras cosponsored an ordinance with 38th Ward Alderman Tom Allen that designated a stretch of Central Avenue in the vicinity of its intersection with Belmont Avenue as "Honorary Lech Kaczynski Way" to honor the Polish President [4] who perished in the 2010 Polish Air Force Tu-154 crash.
As a member of the Chicago City Council,Reboyras serves on five committees:Committees,Rules and Ethics;Housing and Real Estate;License and Real Estate;Police and Fire;and Transportation and Public Way.
Reboyras is a member of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO).
Reboyras is also involved with a number of Chicago charities and non-profit organizations. These include the Active Transportation Alliance,Test Positive Aware Network's Ride for AIDS Chicago,the Healthy Streets Campaign,as well as local little league baseball and youth football programs. Reboyras was also the co-founder of the Northwest Youth Basketball Association and "Maraton San-Juan," an 8K Road Race held in conjunction with the Chicago Puerto Rican Parade. [3]
Reboyras also serves as the Democratic Party Committeeman of the 30th Ward. He was first appointed on November 6,2006,and was elected on February 5,2008. [3]
Luis Vicente Gutiérrez is an American politician. He served as the U.S. representative for Illinois's 4th congressional district from 1993 to 2019. From 1986 until his election to Congress,he served as a member of the Chicago City Council representing the 26th ward. He is a member of the Democratic Party and was a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus during his tenure in the House. In the 113th Congress,with his 20 years of service,Gutiérrez became,along with Bobby Rush,the longest serving member of the Illinois House delegation,and so was occasionally referred to as the unofficial "dean" of the delegation.
Humboldt Park,one of 77 designated community areas,is on the West Side of Chicago,Illinois. The Humboldt Park neighborhood is known for its dynamic social and ethnic demographic change over the years. The Puerto Rican community has identified strongly with the area since the 1970s. Humboldt Park is also the name of a 207-acre (0.8 km2) park adjacent to the community area.

The group aims to fight for neighborhood empowerment and self-determination for Puerto Rico,Latinos,and colonized people. Tactics used by the Young Lords include mass education,canvassing,community programs,occupations,and direct confrontation. The Young Lords became targets of the United States FBI's COINTELPRO program.
Archer Heights is a community area in Chicago,Illinois,one of the 77 official community areas of Chicago.
West Town,northwest of the Loop on Chicago's West Side,is one of the city's officially designated community areas. Much of this area was historically part of Polish Downtown,along Western Avenue,which was then the city's western boundary. West Town was a collection of several distinct neighborhoods and the most populous community area until it was surpassed by Near West Side in the 1960s. The boundaries of the community area are the Chicago River to the east,the Union Pacific railroad tracks to the south,the former railroad tracks on Bloomingdale Avenue to the North,and an irregular western border to the west that includes the city park called Humboldt Park. Humboldt Park is also the name of the community area to West Town's west,Logan Square is to the north,Near North Side to the east,and Near West Side to the south. The collection of neighborhoods in West Town along with the neighborhoods of Bucktown and the eastern portion of Logan Square have been referred to by some media as the "Near Northwest Side".
John Pope is a former alderman of the 10th Ward of the City of Chicago. He was first elected in 1999 and served four terms,the last of which ended in 2015 when he lost an election to Alderman Susan Sadlowski Garza in 2015.
Latasha R. Thomas is an American politician and former alderman of the 17th Ward of the City of Chicago,Illinois,United States. Thomas was appointed to the position of alderman by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 2000,subsequently elected outright in a 2001 special election,and was re-elected in 2003,2007,and 2011. During her tenure as alderman,Thomas worked to get many of the schools within her ward renovated. In the fall of 2014 Thomas announced that she would not seek re-election in 2015 as alderman,following the announcement that a former employee would run in her place.
Isaac "Ike" Sims Carothers is a former alderman of the 29th Ward on the far west side of the City of Chicago. He was first elected in 1999. He resigned in 2010 after pleading guilty to federal corruption charges.
Ted Matlak was the alderman of the 32nd ward in Chicago from 1998 until 2007. On April 17,2007,Matlak lost to challenger Scott Waguespack in a close aldermanic race.

The 2015 Chicago aldermanic elections happened on February 24,2015,to elect the 50 Aldermen that represent Chicago in the City Council. The elections were non-partisan and if no candidate received an absolute majority,a runoff would be held between the top two finishers on April 7,2015.
Sophia D. King is an American politician and member of Chicago City Council,who served as alderman from the 4th ward,which includes portions of the neighborhoods Bronzeville,Hyde Park,Kenwood,Oakland,and South Loop. King was appointed to the position in 2016 to replace retiring incumbent Will Burns. She won a special election to serve out the rest term of the term in 2017 and was re-elected to a full term in 2019. She is a member and chair of the City Council's Progressive Reform Caucus. King forwent reelection to the city council in 2023 in order to make an unsuccessful run for mayor of Chicago in the 2023 Chicago mayoral election.
