Leslie Hairston (born July 17,1961) is an American politician who was alderperson of the 5th ward of the City of Chicago;she was elected in 1999. Hairston is a Hyde Park native. As alderman,she represents the ward in the Chicago City Council along with representatives from the 49 other Chicago wards. She was re-elected in 2003,2007,2011,2015 and 2019.
Hairston was born in Chicago and grew up in the Hyde Park and South Shore neighborhoods. She is an alumna of the University of Chicago Lab Schools. [1] Hariston earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin,and her J.D. degree from Loyola University School of Law. [2] Before becoming alderman,Hairston was in a private law practice.
Hairston worked in Springfield as an Assistant Attorney General. She also handled litigation for the office of the Illinois Attorney's Appellate Prosecutor's Office,where she argued before the Illinois Supreme Court. She is a member of the South Shore Cultural Center Advisory Council,the Jackson Park Advisory Council,and the O'Keeffe Area Council. She was a member of the McFarland Mental Health Center with the Illinois Department of Mental Health and Development Disabilities and a former beat facilitator for CAPS. Hairston is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
Hairston was elected in 1999,when she defeated an incumbent in her first race. She sits on five committees:Buildings;Rules and Ethics;Human Relations;Parks and Recreation;and Special Events and Cultural Affairs. [2] Between January 2008 and July 2009,Hairston hired Chicago political consultant Delmarie Cobb to prepare newsletters and news releases and to publicize ward meetings for the alderman,and paid Cobb thousands of dollars from Hairston's campaign fund,as well as nearly $28,000 from a taxpayer-funded payroll account,available to aldermen with no scrutiny. Hairston was one of only five Chicago aldermen to oppose the privatization of Chicago parking meters. [4]
Hairston is a member of the Council's Progressive Reform Caucus.
In the 2019 Chicago mayoral election,Hairston endorsed Toni Preckwinkle,declaring her support for her in advance of the first round of the election upon Preckwinkle's entrance into the mayoral race. [5]
On August 26,2022,Hairston announced that she would not run for re-election in the 2023 election,retiring at the end of her term. [6]
David Duvall Orr is an American Democratic politician who served as the Cook County Clerk from 1990 to 2018. Orr previously served as alderman for the 49th ward in Chicago City Council from 1979 to 1990. He briefly served as acting Mayor of Chicago from November 25 to December 2,1987,following the death of Mayor Harold Washington. Orr retired from the office of Cook County Clerk in 2018,opting not to run for an eighth term.

In 2023 Beale was elected dto his seventh term in office. In 2013,Beale was an unsuccessful candidate in the Democratic primary for the special election to replace Jesse Jackson Jr. as U.S. Congressman from Illinois' 2nd congressional district.

Latasha R. Thomas is an American politician and former alderman of the 17th Ward of the City of Chicago,Illinois,United States. Thomas was appointed to the position of alderman by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 2000,subsequently elected outright in a 2001 special election,and was re-elected in 2003,2007,and 2011. During her tenure as alderman,Thomas worked to get many of the schools within her ward renovated. In the fall of 2014 Thomas announced that she would not seek re-election in 2015 as alderman,following the announcement that a former employee would run in her place.
Isaac "Ike" Sims Carothers is a former alderman of the 29th Ward on the far west side of the City of Chicago. He was first elected in 1999. He resigned in 2010 after pleading guilty to federal corruption charges.

She was elected to the Chicago City Council as an alderman of the 7th ward of the City of Chicago in the 2007 municipal elections held on February 27,2007. She succeeded Darcel A. Beavers who had been appointed by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley after the 2006 November elections to succeed her father William Beavers,Jackson's rival,as alderman of the 7th Ward. Jackson resigned from Chicago City Council,effective January 15,2013. On February 20,2013,Jackson pleaded guilty to one count of filing false tax returns,and on August 14,2013,was sentenced to one year in prison.
Toni Lynn Preckwinkle is an American politician and the current County Board president in Cook County,Illinois,United States. She was elected to her first term as president of the Cook County Board of Commissioners,the executive branch of Cook County government,in November 2010,becoming the first woman elected to that position.
William D. Burns is an American politician and businessman,a former member of the Chicago City Council,representing Chicago's 4th ward,and the State House. An election took place on February 24,2015,to elect the mayor of Chicago. The election was non-partisan and no candidate received a majority. A runoff election was held between the top two finishers on April 7,2015,and resulted in the reelection of incumbent mayor Rahm Emanuel. The elections were concurrent with the 2015 Chicago aldermanic elections.

Sophia D. King is an American politician and former member of Chicago City Council,who served as alderman from the 4th ward,which includes portions of the neighborhoods Bronzeville,Hyde Park,Kenwood,Oakland,and South Loop. The 2019 Chicago mayoral election was held on February 26,2019,to determine the next Mayor of the City of Chicago,Illinois. Since no candidate received a majority of votes,a runoff election was held on April 2,2019,between the two candidates with the most votes,Lori Lightfoot and Toni Preckwinkle. Lightfoot defeated Preckwinkle in the runoff election to become mayor,and was sworn in as mayor on May 20,2019.
Jeanette Beatrice Taylor is an American politician and community organizer. Taylor is the alderman of Chicago,Illinois' 20th ward,taking office as a member of the Chicago City Council in May 2019. She won an open race to succeed outgoing alderman Willie Cochran in the 2019 Chicago aldermanic elections. She is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.
Derrick G. Curtis is an American politician who has served as the alderman of Chicago's 18th ward since 2015. He became the Democratic committeeman of the ward in 2011 after Lona Lane stepped down from that position. Curtis had previously been the ward's Streets and Sanitation superintendent,with more than 25 years of experience as a precinct captain. He ran against Lane in the 2015 aldermanic race and defeated her in a runoff. He was sworn into office on May 18,2015.
