David H. Moore is an American politician and member of the Chicago City Council serving as alderman for the 17th ward since May 18,2015. The 17th ward includes portions of Auburn Gresham,Englewood,Chicago Lawn,Marquette Park and West Englewood. [1]
Moore was raised in the Robert Taylor Homes until age 11 when his family moved in with an uncle. After hearing Harold Washington speak during one of his congressional reelection campaign appearances he decided to get politically involved. [2] He then graduated from Simeon Vocational High School and double majored in accounting and operations management at Western Illinois University. [3] When he returned home,he joined Alderman Terry Peterson's 17th ward Democratic organization. He eventually rose to be the organization's field director and treasurer. [2] He worked as an accountant at several Fortune 500 companies. He earned an M.A. with a focus in urban government from Loyola University. He moved from the private sector to become finance officer for the Chicago Department of Aviation and later an assistant commissioner for the Cook County Board of Review. [3]
In 2011,he ran for alderman against incumbent Latasha Thomas,losing by 327 votes in the runoff election. In 2015,he ran again against Thomas staffer Glenda Franklin. An opponent of the school closings by Rahm Emanuel,he endorsed Emanuel's opponent Chuy García. [2] After winning the February primary election,he was sworn into office on May 18,2015. [3] He joined the Progressive Reform Caucus before being sworn in. [4] In August 2015,he was attacked while on a neighborhood patrol. [5] In 2016,he was elected Democratic Committeeman for the 17th ward. He was reelected to the City Council in 2019.
Moore is a member of the Council's Progressive Reform Caucus.
Moore is assigned to the following committees;Committees,Rules and Ethics;Economic,Capital and Technology Development;Housing and Real Estate;Human Relations;License and Consumer Protection;Zoning,Landmarks and Building Standards. [6]
In May 2021,Moore announced that he would be running in the 2022 election for Illinois secretary of state. [7] He was soundly defeated,getting less than 10% of the vote. [8]
The Chicago City Council is the legislative branch of the government of the City of Chicago in Illinois. It consists of 50 alderpersons elected from 50 wards to serve four-year terms. The council is called into session regularly,usually monthly,to consider ordinances,orders,and resolutions whose subject matter includes code changes,utilities,taxes,and many other issues. The Chicago City Council Chambers are located in Chicago City Hall,as are the downtown offices of the individual alderpersons and staff.
Ricardo Muñoz is a former member of the Chicago City Council,having served as alderman for the 22nd ward,which includes Little Village and Archer Heights. Muñoz was appointed to this position by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 1993 and served until 2019. He was the longest tenured Latino and fourth longest tenured member of the Chicago City Council.

Nicholas Sposato serves on the Chicago City Council as alderman of the 38th Ward of the City of Chicago on the city's Far Northwest Side. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa is an American politician. He has served as the Alderperson for Chicago's 35th Ward since May 18,2015. He was first elected to the Council in 2015,become one of the chamber's youngest members ever elected at age 26. He was re-elected in 2019 and 2023.

Susan Sadlowski Garza is a member of the Chicago City Council serving as Alderman for the 10th ward. The 10th ward is located on Chicago's southeast side and includes East Side,Hegewisch,Jeffrey Manor,South Chicago and South Deering. She initially assumed office after defeating Rahm Emanuel ally John Pope in the 2015 election. Sophia D. King is an American politician and former member of Chicago City Council,who served as alderman from the 4th ward,which includes portions of the neighborhoods Bronzeville,Hyde Park,Kenwood,Oakland,and South Loop. King was appointed to the position in 2016 to replace retiring incumbent Will Burns. She won a special election to serve out the rest term of the term in 2017 and was re-elected to a full term in 2019. She was a member and chair of the City Council's Progressive Reform Caucus. King forwent reelection to the city council in 2023 in order to make an unsuccessful run for mayor of Chicago in the 2023 Chicago mayoral election.
The 2019 Chicago mayoral election was held on February 26,2019,to determine the next Mayor of the City of Chicago,Illinois. Since no candidate received a majority of votes,a runoff election was held on April 2,2019,between the two candidates with the most votes,Lori Lightfoot and Toni Preckwinkle. Lightfoot defeated Preckwinkle in the runoff election to become mayor,and was sworn in as mayor on May 20,2019.
The 2019 Chicago elections took place in two rounds on February 26,2019,and April 2,2019. Elections were held for Mayor of Chicago,City Clerk of Chicago,City Treasurer of Chicago,and all 50 members of the Chicago City Council. The candidates who won in these elections were inaugurated on May 20,2019. Four ballot referendums were also voted on in certain precincts. The elections were administered by the Chicago Board of Elections.
The 2018 Illinois Attorney General election took place on November 6,2018,to elect the Attorney General of Illinois. Incumbent Democratic Attorney General Lisa Madigan,who had served since 2003,did not seek re-election to a fifth term. Democrat Kwame Raoul won the election with 55 percent of the vote,while Republican Erika Harold took 43 percent of the vote.
Andrea Marie Valencia is an American politician who serves as the City Clerk of Chicago. She was appointed to the position vacated by Susana Mendoza,and took office in 2017. She was elected to a full term as City Clerk in 2019. Although unsuccessful in her run for Illinois Secretary of State in 2022,she won reelection to City Clerk in 2023.

Maria Elaine Hadden is an American politician and community activist from Chicago. She is a member of the Chicago City Council,serving as alderperson for the city's 49th ward. She won election to that office after defeating 28-year incumbent Joe Moore in the 2019 election,and was reelected in 2023. The 49th ward includes most of Rogers Park and portions of West Ridge. She is a member of the Progressive Caucus,Black Caucus,and LGBT Caucus in the City Council.

The Progressive Reform Caucus of the Chicago City Council is a bloc of aldermen in the Chicago City Council that was formed in 2013. Its stated mission statement is "creating a more just and equal Chicago,combating all forms of discrimination,and advancing public policies that offer genuine opportunity to all Chicagoans,especially those who have been left out of our society’s prosperity." As of the 2023–27 term,it had 19 members,out of the council's 50 aldermen.
Stephanie D. Coleman is a Chicago politician. Coleman is the current alderman of Chicago's 16th ward,taking office as a member of the Chicago City Council in May 2019. She defeated incumbent alderman Toni Foulkes in the 2019 Chicago aldermanic elections. She is also the Democratic Party Committeeman in the 16th ward. Since June 2023,she has been the chair of the Chicago Aldermanic Black Caucus.
The 2022 Illinois Secretary of State election was held on November 8,2022,to elect the next Illinois Secretary of State. Incumbent Democrat Jesse White did not seek re-election to a seventh term. Alexi Giannoulias,a former state treasurer,won the open seat.
