Brian K. Hopkins (born November 8,1961) is a Democratic Alderman of Chicago,representing the 2nd Ward. The 2nd Ward includes Streeterville,Old Town,Lincoln Park,Ukrainian Village,Wicker Park,Bucktown and the Gold Coast. [1] Prior to his election to the Chicago City Council,he served as Chief of Staff to Cook County Commissioner John P. Daley. [2]
Hopkins was born in Fort Huachuca,Arizona while his father served in the United States Army. His parents were natives of Chicago's McKinley Park neighborhood,and returned there shortly after his birth.
Hopkins resides in the Lincoln Park neighborhood with his wife and son.
He is a member of the following committees:Budget and Government Operations;Committees,Rules and Ethics;Health and Environmental Protection;Human Relations;Pedestrian and Traffic Safety;and Special Events,Cultural Affairs and Recreation. [3]
In November 2019,Hopkins was one of fifteen aldermen to oppose a $72 million property tax increase in Mayor Lori Lightfoot's first budget that included $7 million in funding for City Colleges,$32 million in funding to retire a general obligation bond issue and $18 million in funding for libraries. However,he voted for the budget as a whole. [4]
Humboldt Park,one of 77 designated community areas,is on the West Side of Chicago,Illinois. The Humboldt Park neighborhood is known for its dynamic social and ethnic demographic change over the years. The Puerto Rican community has identified strongly with the area since the 1970s. Humboldt Park is also the name of the Chicago Park District's historic 207-acre (0.8 km2) park or public garden adjacent to the community area.

Helen Shiller is a former Alderman of the 46th ward in Chicago,Illinois. Shiller is also a published author,having written a 500-page book on her politics and activism in Chicago from 1971 to 2011. Shiller served in the Chicago City Council for six four-year terms,from 1987 to 2011. Shiller was elected to the City Council on her third attempt,as Harold Washington,Chicago's first black Mayor,was re-elected to his second term,and her election as alderman helped close the Council Wars era in Chicago government. Latasha R. Thomas is an American politician and former alderman of the 17th Ward of the City of Chicago,Illinois,United States. Thomas was appointed to the position of alderman by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 2000,subsequently elected outright in a 2001 special election,and was re-elected in 2003,2007,and 2011. During her tenure as alderman,Thomas worked to get many of the schools within her ward renovated. In the fall of 2014,Thomas announced that she would not seek re-election in 2015 as alderman,following the announcement that a former employee would run in her place.

The Progressive Reform Caucus of the Chicago City Council is a bloc of aldermen in the Chicago City Council that was formed in 2013. Its stated mission statement is "creating a more just and equal Chicago,combating all forms of discrimination,and advancing public policies that offer genuine opportunity to all Chicagoans,especially those who have been left out of our society’s prosperity." As of the 2023–27 term,it had 19 members,out of the council's 50 aldermen.
