Nicole T. Lee [1] [2] (born 1974or1975) [3] is an American politician in Chicago,Illinois. She is a member of the Chicago City Council as the alderwoman for the 11th ward,which includes portions of Bridgeport,New City,and Chinatown. She took office in March 2022,after being appointed to fill the vacancy created by the removal of Patrick Daley Thompson. [4] [5] [6] She was elected to a full term in 2023. She is the second Asian American and first Chinese American to serve on the City Council. [a]
Lee was born and raised in the Chinatown neighborhood of Chicago. [7] She attended Mark Sheridan Math and Science Academy and Whitney Young Magnet High School. [6] She received a bachelor's degree in public affairs from Indiana University and a master's degree in public policy from University of Chicago. [2] [5] [6]
Prior to her appointment to City Council,Lee was an executive at United Airlines and worked on philanthropy and corporate social responsibility efforts. [6] She had previously worked in several executive roles for Private Bank,BP America,and other corporations. [7] She has also served as an independent consultant for community organizations,president of the Chicago chapter of the Organization of Chinese Americans,interim executive director and board member of the Chinese Mutual Aid Association,and a member of the University of Illinois at Chicago Asian American Advisory Council. On February 14,2022,incumbent 11th ward alderman Patrick Daley Thompson was removed from his position after his conviction for federal tax fraud charges made him ineligible to serve. [9] The office of Mayor Lori Lightfoot,charged with nominating a replacement,announced on March 15 that it had received 27 applications. [10] Lightfoot nominated Lee on March 24,citing her "dedication to empowering communities and building coalitions." [7] On March 28,the City Council approved her appointment in a 45-0 vote. [11] Lee stated that her top three priorities for the ward were city services provision,public safety,and educational opportunities. [12]
Lee's father,Gene Lee,was a long-time political aide for former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. He pled guilty to charges of embezzlement and fraud,unrelated to his position as an aide,in 2014. [12]

The Chicago City Council is the legislative branch of the government of the City of Chicago in Illinois. It consists of 50 alderpersons elected from 50 wards to serve four-year terms. The council is called into session regularly, usually monthly, to consider ordinances, orders, and resolutions whose subject matter includes code changes, utilities, taxes, and many other issues. The Chicago City Council Chambers are located in Chicago City Hall, as are the downtown offices of the individual alderpersons and staff.
Thomas M. Tunney is an American politician and entrepreneur from Chicago, Illinois. From 2003 to 2023, he served as an alderman on the Chicago City Council. He represented the 44th Ward of the city, which includes major tourist destinations, Northalsted and Wrigleyville neighborhoods. He was also vice mayor from 2019 to 2023.
George A. Cárdenas was Alderman of the 12th Ward of the City of Chicago. A member of the Democratic Party, he was elected to his first term on the Chicago City Council in 2003. From 2015 to 2022, he served as an alderman in the Chicago City Council representing the 24th ward, which includes portions of North Lawndale, South Austin and West Garfield Park. He is a member of the Democratic Party and was a member of the Chicago Aldermanic Black Caucus while in City Council.
Sophia D. King is an American politician and former member of Chicago City Council, who served as alderman from the 4th ward, which includes portions of the neighborhoods Bronzeville, Hyde Park, Kenwood, Oakland, and South Loop. King was appointed to the position by mayor Rahm Emanuel in 2016 as a replacement to the retiring William D. Burns. She won a special election in 2017 to serve out the rest term of the Burns' unexpired term, and was re-elected to a full term in 2019. On the council, she was a member and chair of the Progressive Reform Caucus. She forwent reelection to the city council in 2023 in order to make an unsuccessful run for mayor of Chicago in the 2023 Chicago mayoral election.
The 2019 Chicago mayoral election was held on February 26, 2019, to determine the next Mayor of the City of Chicago, Illinois. Since no candidate received a majority of votes, a runoff election was held on April 2, 2019, between the two candidates with the most votes, Lori Lightfoot and Toni Preckwinkle. Lightfoot defeated Preckwinkle in the runoff election to become mayor, and was sworn in as mayor on May 20, 2019.

Maria Elaine Hadden is an American politician and community activist from Chicago. She is a member of the Chicago City Council, serving as alderperson for the city's 49th ward. The 2023 Chicago aldermanic election took place in two rounds on February 28 and April 4, 2023, to elect 50 alderpersons to the Chicago City Council. Each alderperson represents one of Chicago's 50 wards. The elections are non-partisan and use a two-round system where the top two finishers compete in a second-round runoff if no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in the first round. The elections are part of the 2023 Chicago elections, which include elections for Mayor, City Clerk, and City Treasurer.

She ran for re-election to a full term, but lost to Julia Ramirez. The 12th ward is on Chicago's southwest side, and includes portions of Brighton Park, McKinley Park, and Little Village.
