Canadian literature is the literature of a multicultural country,written in languages including Canadian English,Canadian French,and Indigenous languages. Influences on Canadian writers are broad both geographically and historically,representing Canada's diversity in culture and region.
George Elliott Clarke,is a Canadian poet,playwright and literary critic who served as the Poet Laureate of Toronto from 2012 to 2015,and as the 2016–2017 Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate. His work is known largely for its use of a vast range of literary and artistic traditions,its lush physicality and its bold political substance. One of Canada's most illustrious poets,Clarke is also known for chronicling the experience and history of the Black Canadian communities of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick,creating a cultural geography that he has coined "Africadia".

Norval Morrisseau,also known as Copper Thunderbird,was an Indigenous Canadian artist from the Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek First Nation. He is widely regarded as the grandfather of contemporary Indigenous art in Canada. Known as the "Picasso of the North," Morrisseau created works depicting the legends of his people,the cultural and political tensions between native Canadian and European traditions,his existential struggles,and his deep spirituality and mysticism. His style is characterized by thick black outlines and bright colors. He founded the Woodlands School of Canadian art and was a prominent member of the “Indian Group of Seven."
Steven Heighton was a Canadian fiction writer,poet,and singer-songwriter. He is the author of eighteen books,including three short story collections,four novels,and seven poetry collections. His last work was Selected Poems 1983-2020 and an album,The Devil's Share.
Duncan Campbell Scott was a Canadian civil servant and poet and prose writer. With Charles G.D. Roberts,Bliss Carman,and Archibald Lampman,he is classed as one of Canada's Confederation Poets.
Jeannette Christine Armstrong is a Canadian author,educator,artist,and activist. She was born and grew up on the Penticton Indian reserve in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley,and fluently speaks both the Syilx and English languages. Armstrong has lived on the Penticton Native Reserve for most of her life and has raised her two children there. In 2013,she was appointed Canada Research Chair in Okanagan Indigenous Knowledge and Philosophy.
Cyril Dabydeen is a Guyana-born Canadian writer of Indian descent. He grew up in Rose Hall sugar plantation with the sense of Indian indenture rooted in his family background. He's a cousin of the UK writer David Dabydeen.
An underwater panther,called Mishipeshu or Mishibijiw in Ojibwe,is one of the most important of several mythical water beings among many Indigenous peoples of the Northeastern Woodlands and Great Lakes region,particularly among the Anishinaabe.
Woodlands style,also called the Woodlands school,Legend painting,Medicine painting,and Anishnabe painting,is a genre of painting among First Nations and Native American artists from the Great Lakes area,including northern Ontario and southwestern Manitoba. Katherena Vermette is a Canadian writer,who won the Governor General's Award for English-language poetry in 2013 for her collection North End Love Songs. Vermette is of Métis descent and originates from Winnipeg,Manitoba. She was an MFA student in creative writing at the University of British Columbia.
Dr.Duke Redbird is an Indigenous Canadian poet,journalist,activist,businessman,actor and administrator,best known as a key figure in the development of First Nations literature in Canada.
Carmen L. Robertson is a writer and scholar of art history and indigenous peoples. She was born in Balcarres,Saskatchewan,of Lakota and Scottish ancestry. She is Canada Research Chair in North American Art and Material Culture in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Carleton University. Before joining Carleton,Robertson was an associate professor in the Faculty of Media,Art &Performance at the University of Regina (2006-2012). She also served as the Indian Fine Arts department head at the First Nations University of Canada where she taught from 2000-2006. A number of Robertson's writings focus on the Aboriginal Canadian artist Norval Morrisseau. She is past president of the Native Heritage Foundation of Canada.
Cherie Dimaline is a Métis writer from the Georgian Bay Métis Nation,a federally recognized community in Ontario. She has written a variety of award-winning novels and other acclaimed stories and articles. She is most noted for her 2017 young adult novel The Marrow Thieves,which explores the continued colonial exploitation of Indigenous people.
Emma LaRocque is a Canadian academic of Cree and Métis descent. She is currently a professor of Native American studies at the University of Manitoba.
Sharron Proulx-Turner was a two-spirit Métis writer. She investigated themes of Métis storytelling and was recognized as a mentor to other writers.
