The Training Regiment (Italian : Reggimento Addestrativo) of the Artillery Command is the military unit responsible for providing ground artillery training to the units and personnel of the Italian Army. Made up of professional personnel, the Regiment is stationed in Bracciano (Rome). [2]
The Training Regiment operates the OTO Melara Mod 56 howitzer on the Janiculum Hill in Rome. [3] [4]
The Regiment is the heir of the units deployed at the Artillery School. It was established on 1 March 2006 within the now-dissolved Artillery School, by merging and replacing the Training and Support Groups, [5] with Colonel Federico Ralli as its first Commander.

The Regimental Command, with the Logistics Battery, has the task of enabling the Regiment to operate in the best possible way under the tactical and logistical aspect and in the many activities to which it is called to operate, supporting it and supplying it with everything of which the Regiment may need. The Training Group is a Battalion-level unit. The Group has the task of conducting the training and specialization of the Pupils Marshals and Sergeants, and the qualification, updating and specialization of Officers, NCOs, Volunteers in fixed position and in permanent service. The Training Group also organizes and conducts shooting schools. [2]
The Paratroopers Brigade "Folgore" is an airborne brigade of the Italian Army. Its core units are three battalions of paratroopers (paracadutisti). The name "Folgore" is Italian for lightning. The Folgore is one of three light infantry brigades of the Italian Army. While the Folgore specializes in parachute operations its sister brigade in the Division "Vittorio Veneto" the Airmobile Brigade Friuli specializes in helicopter assault operations. The Folgore and its units are based in Tuscany, Veneto and Lazio.
The Mechanized Brigade "Granatieri di Sardegna" is a mechanized infantry brigade of the Italian Army, based in Rome and central Italy. The brigade fields one of the oldest regiments of the Army and is one of the guard regiments of the President of Italy. The name of the unit dates back to the Kingdom of Sardinia and not the eponymous Mediterranean island of Sardinia. The brigade is part of the Division "Acqui".
The 105th Infantry Division "Rovigo" was an infantry division of the Royal Italian Army during World War II. The Rovigo was named for the city of Rovigo and classified as an auto-transportable division, meaning it had some motorized transport, but not enough to move the entire division at once.
The 152nd Infantry Division "Piceno" was an infantry division of the Royal Italian Army during World War II. The Piceno was formed on 20 February 1942 and named for the region of Piceno. The Piceno was classified as an occupation infantry division, which meant that the division's artillery regiment consisted of two artillery groups instead of the three artillery groups of line infantry divisions and that the divisional mortar battalion was replaced by a divisional machine gun battalion.
After World War II the Italian Army had two units named "Centauro": from 1952 to 1986 the Armored Division "Centauro" and from 1986 to 2002 the Armored Brigade "Centauro". Both units were successor to the World War II era 131st Armored Division "Centauro". The units' name came from the mythological race of half human-half horse creatures named Centaurs.
The 132nd Armored Brigade "Ariete" is currently the only active armored brigade of the Italian Army. Its core units are tank and Bersaglieri regiments. The brigade's headquarters is in Pordenone, and most of its units are based in the North-East of Italy. The brigade's name comes from the battering ram. The brigade draws much of its historical traditions from the 132nd Armored Division "Ariete," which fought in the Western Desert Campaign of World War II. In 1948, the Ariete was reconstituted as a division and remained active until 1986. Today the brigade is part of the Division "Vittorio Veneto".
The Mechanized Brigade "Legnano" was a mechanized brigade of the Italian Army. Its core units were mechanized infantry battalions. The brigade's headquarters was in the city of Bergamo in Lombardy. The name of the brigade commemorates the Lombard League victory in the Battle of Legnano in 1176 and its coat of arms depicts the Monument to the Warrior of Legnano in the centre of Legnano.
The Mechanized Division "Folgore" was a mechanized division of the Italian Army. Its core units were three mechanized brigades. The brigades headquarters was in the city of Treviso.
The 185th Paratroopers Artillery Regiment "Folgore is an artillery regiment of the Italian Army, specializing in airborne operations. Originally an artillery regiment of the Royal Italian Army, the regiment was assigned in World War II to the 185th Infantry Division "Folgore", with which the regiment was deployed to North Africa for the Western Desert campaign, during which division and regiment were destroyed in the Second Battle of El Alamein. Reformed in 1975 the regiment is today based in Bracciano near Rome and assigned to the Paratroopers Brigade "Folgore". The regimental anniversary falls, as for all Italian Army artillery regiments, on June 15, the beginning of the Second Battle of the Piave River in 1918.
The 185th Paratroopers Reconnaissance Target Acquisition Regiment "Folgore" is an Italian Army special forces unit. The regiment is part of the Italian Army's infantry arm's Paracadutisti speciality and assigned to the Army Special Forces Command.
With the 1975 reforms the Italian Army abolished the regimental level and replaced it with brigades made up of multiple arms. During the reform the army disbanded 48 regimental commands and reduced its force by 87 battalions. A further ten regimental commands were used to raise ten new brigade commands. Ten training centers, which for traditional reasons had carried the names of regiments, were also disbanded. The reduction in units also allowed to mechanize most of the remaining units in Northern Italy and Italy's defense strategy changed from a hold-at-all-costs territorial defense to one of mobile warfare.
The 235th Volunteer Training Regiment "Piceno" is an active unit of the Italian Army based in Ascoli Piceno in the Marche region. The regiment is named for the city of historic region of Piceno and was part of the Italian Army's infantry arm, until it became a training unit and was redesignated as a "multi-arms unit" in 2004.
The 80th Regiment "Roma" is an active unit of the Italian Army based in Monte Romano in Lazio. The regiment is named for the city of Rome and was part of the Italian Army's infantry arm until 2004, when it became a training unit and was redesignated as a "multi-arms unit" and designated 80th Volunteer Training Regiment "Roma". In December 2023 the regiment became a training support unit at the Monte Romano training range with the new name 80th Regiment "Roma".

Originally an armored artillery regiment of the Royal Italian Army, the regiment was assigned during World War II to the 132nd Armored Division "Ariete", with which it fought in the Western Desert campaign until the division and regiment were destroyed in the Second Battle of El Alamein.
The 21st Field Artillery Regiment "Trieste" is a field artillery regiment of the Italian Army. Today the regiment is based in Foggia in Apulia and assigned to the Mechanized Brigade "Pinerolo". Originally an artillery regiment of the Royal Italian Army, the regiment was formed in 1888 and served in World War I on the Italian front. In 1935 the regiment was assigned to the 8th Infantry Division "Po", which in 1939 was renamed 101st Motorized Division "Trieste". The division participated in the Greco-Italian War, fought in the Western Desert campaign and was forced to surrender to allied forces on 12 May 1943 at the end of the Tunisian campaign.
The 52nd Field Artillery Regiment "Torino" is an artillery regiment of the Italian Army trained for divisional artillery support. Since September 2020 the regiment is based together with the 8th Field Artillery Regiment "Pasubio" in Persano in Campania. The regiment is assigned to the army's Artillery Command.
The 7th CBRN Defense Regiment "Cremona" is the Italian Army's CBRN defense unit. Today the regiment is based in Civitavecchia in Lazio and assigned to the Artillery Command. The regiment was formed in 1860 by the Royal Sardinian Army and its batteries participated in the same year in the Sardinian campaign in Central and Southern Italy. In 1861 the regiment joined the Royal Italian Army and in 1866 it fought in the Third Italian War of Independence. During World War I the regiment served on the Italian front. In 1939 the regiment was assigned to the 44th Infantry Division "Cremona", which was deployed in Corsica when the Armistice of Cassibile was announced on 8 September 1943. The division immediately went on the offensive against German forces trying to retreat through the island. The division then joined the Italian Co-belligerent Army and was reorganized as Combat Group "Cremona". Equipped with British weapons and materiel the group was assigned to the British V Corps and fought in the Allied 1945 spring offensive.

The 87th Infantry Regiment "Friuli" is an active unit of the Italian Army based in Bologna in the Emilia-Romagna. The regiment is named for the region of Friuli and part of the Italian Army's infantry arm. On 1 October 2022 the name, flag and traditions of the regiment were assigned to the Command and Tactical Supports Unit "Friuli" of the Airmobile Brigade "Friuli".
