Arun Kumar Sinha (1963-2023) was an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Kerala cadre (1987 batch),known for his service as the Director of the Special Protection Group (SPG) India. [2] [3]
He was born on 9 May 1963 in Hazaribagh,Jharkhand. He studied at St Columba's College Hazaribagh where he got Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 1984. He did his preparation for Civil Services Examination in Delhi and got into IPS on his second attempt.
Sinha was a 1987 batch IPS officer. He started his career in the Kerala cadre as assistant superintendent of police at Mananthavady in Wayanad. [4] Then he was posted as the Commissioner of Police in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. [5]
He is known for modernizing the Kerala Police,and his work to enhance law enforcement and effectiveness in the state. [6] Before becoming the SPG Director,Sinha served with the Border Security Force,contributing to safeguarding India's borders. In 2016,he assumed the role of Director of the Special Protection Group (SPG), [7] where he was responsible for the security of the Prime Minister of India and former Prime Ministers. [8]
From June 2009 to June 2014,Mr. Sinha served a five-year Central deputation with the Border Security Force (BSF),holding the position of Inspector General (IG) for the Gujarat Frontier. [9] During his tenure,he worked on border security along an 860-kilometer stretch,which included the Barmer region of Rajasthan. His is known for deterrence of illegal activities carried out by counterparts,armed non-state entities (ANEs),and smugglers in the region.
As Director SPG he introduced training programmes to strengthen the acumen of SPG officers to provide fail proof security cover to all its Protectees. [10]
On 30 May 2023 just one day before retirement,he was given an extension for 1 year in the same post. [11]
Sinha is known for launching Kerala Police's first website,a pioneering step in police digitalization. This model was subsequently adopted by other Indian states. [5]
During his 36-year service,Sinha received several awards,including the President's Medal for Meritorious Service in 2003 and the President's Medal for Distinguished Service in 2011. [12]
He was experiencing health issues related to pancreatic cancer and was admitted to Medanta hospital in Gurugram for treatment [13] where he died on 6 September 2023. [1] At the time of his death,he was the longest serving Director SPG. [14]

The SPG protects the Prime Minister at all times both in India and abroad,as well as the Prime Minister's immediate family members residing with them at their official residence. Family members,however,may decline security.
Shri Krishna Singh (Sinha) (21 October 1887 –31 January 1961),also known as Shri Babu,was the first chief minister of the Indian state of Bihar (1946–61). Except for the period of World War II,Sinha was the chief minister of Bihar from the time of the first Congress Ministry in 1937 until his death in 1961. Along with the Desh Ratna Rajendra Prasad and Bihar Vibhuti Anugrah Narayan Sinha (A.N. Sinha),Sinha is regarded among the architects of modern Bihar. He also led the Dalit entry into the Baidyanath Dham temple (Vaidyanath Temple,Deoghar). He was the first chief minister in the country to abolish the zamindari system. He underwent terms of imprisonment for a total of about eight years in British India. Sinha's mass meetings brought many people to hear him. He was known as Bihar Kesari for his "lionlike roars" in public speaking. His close friend and Gandhian Bihar Vibhuti A.N. Sinha in his essay Mere Shri Babu wrote that,"Since 1921,the History of Bihar has been the history of the life of Shri Babu". The 'Bihar Kesari' never visited his constituency to ask for votes as he believed that his work will speak for him.
Nikhil Kumar is a former IPS officer-turned politician hailing from Bihar who was Governor of Nagaland from 2009 to 2013 and Governor of Kerala from 2013 to 2014. One of country's well knownIPS officers of 1963 batch from the AGMUT Cadre Kumar also served as DGP of the National Security Guards,Indo-Tibetan Border Police,Railway Protection Force and Commissioner of Delhi Police. He was elected member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India from 2004 to 2009,representing the Aurangabad constituency in Bihar as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. He also served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology.

Modi has over 33 years of experience in the Indian Police Service (IPS). He served as Director-General of the NIA from October 30,2017 and hold this position till his superannuation on May 31,2021. The Director-General is highest ranking agency executive in the NIA appointed by central/federal government of India,and Y.C. Vivekanand Sinha is the Inspector General of Police of the Durg range of Chhattisgarh. He has previously served as the Inspector General of Police of Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. He has been an IPS since 1996. He was appointed as the head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the investigation of Jhiram Valley Attack by government of Chhattisgarh on 2 January 2019. The Jhiram Valley Attack was a naxal attack which killed top Congress leaders of Chhattisgarh in 2013 during a political rally in Darbha. The new SIT has been formed by the newly elected Congress government of Chhattisgarh to probe into it He has also served as the DIG of Special Protection Group which looks after the security of the Prime Minister of India. During his tenure as IG in Bilaspur,Sinha walked on coal barefoot to convince the locals that there is no magic in walking on coal. This was done to strengthen the human rights of women who were being harassed or boycotted after being labelled as witches.
Subodh Kumar Jaiswal is an Indian police officer who served as the director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He is a 1985 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and former Director General of Police,Maharashtra. He was previously the police commissioner of Mumbai,the largest city in India and the seventh most populous city in the world. Jaiswal was with the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW),India's external intelligence agency for nine years,during which he served as the additional secretary of R&AW for three years. Jaiswal has also served in Intelligence Bureau and Maharashtra ATS Chief. He was the head of the Central Industrial Security Force. Jaiswal's career began in 1985 as a trainee officer in Aurangabad,where he was subsequently assigned the full posting as the Assistant Commissioner of Police.
