Ashraf Asthanvi (2 February 1967-15 November 2022) was an Indian Social Activist, Journalist, Columnist and Writer of Urdu-language. [1] He is the author of Adhyatmak Evam Manavta Ke PrateekShaikh Sharfuddin Ahmad Yahya Maneri (2013), a biographical book on Sharfuddin Yahya Maneri and Professor Abdul Bari: Azeem Mujahid-e-Azadi Aur Bihar Ke Memar (2012), a biographical book on Professor Abdul Bari. He was a regular contributor to Qaumi Awaaz, Qaumi Tanzeem, Inquilab-e-Jadeed, Mahnama Secular Bihar, Roznama Inquilab, Pindaar and Urdu Times. [3] He has served as the Bihar State President of Awaami Urdu Nefaz Committee, [4] and co-ordinator of All-India Urdu Forum. [5]

Early life and education

Ashraf Astanvi was born as Ziaul Ashraf on 2 February 1967 at Asthanwan, Nalanda district of Bihar. [6] [7]

He received his early education at local Maktab and completed Bachelor of Arts from Patna University in 1984. [6]

Ashraf Asthanvi died on 15 November 2022 at his residence in Fakirbara, Patna. He was laid to rest at Dhabri Qabristan on 17 November 2022. His Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Madrasa Muhammadia Asthawan and it was led by Maulana Atiqullah Qasmi. [14] His death was condoled by Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi Yadav, Afaque Ahmed Khan, Khalid Anwar, Qari Sohaib and others. [6] [15] [16]

Laxmi Narayan Sudhanshu (1906–1974) was an Indian writer, litterateur, poet, independent activist and political leader. He won the 1952 Bihar Legislative Assembly election from an assembly seat in Purnia. He also held the post of Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from 1962 to 1967. Sudhanshu is known for actively participating in the Quit India Movement in 1942. He was imprisoned in Bhagalpur jail by the Britishers.

Mohammad Nabi Raza Shah alias Dada Miyan was an Indian Sufi saint and Islamic scholar from Bhainsori, Rampur. He belonged to the Barelvi movement of Sunni Islam.

Deepa Kumari popularly known as Deepa Manjhi is an Indian politician. She is serving as the member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Imamganj Assembly constituency since 23 November 2023. She won on the symbol of Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), a party led by Jitan Ram Manjhi.
