The Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) is the Asian not-for-profit governing body with 42 member countries in amateur boxing. [1] It is a member of the world amateur boxing governing body International Boxing Association (IBA).

The ASBC is headed by a president. There are 2 vice-presidents (1 honorary) and 10 board of directors. [2]

History

The Asian Boxing Confederation was founded as the Asian Boxing Federation in 1962 in Jakarta, Indonesia. [3] [4] The first Asian Amateur Boxing Championships was held in Bangkok, Thailand in the following year. [3]

In November 2024. majority of the ASBC members voted to remain part of the IBA during a congress. President Pichai Chunhavajira resigned after the meeting. [5]

In December 2024, World Boxing affiliate Asian Boxing elected its interim board. Asian Boxing is meant to supplant the ASBC. Former ASBC president Chunhavajira was elected to head Asian Boxing. [6]

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is a governing body of sports in Asia, currently with 45 member National Olympic Committees. Talal Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was elected as President of the OCA on 8 July 2023. However, on 30 July 2023, the International Olympic Committee asked Randhir Singh, who was the acting president at the time, to continue as the Acting President of the OCA while the IOC investigated the OCA presidential election of 2023. On 13 October 2023, the IOC ethics committee asked the OCA to annul its 2023 elections due to Talal’s candidacy not fulfilling the eligibility conditions defined by the OCA Constitution and election interference by his brother Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah.

The IBA Men's World Boxing Championships are biennial amateur boxing competitions organised by the International Boxing Association, which is the sport governing body. Alongside the Olympic boxing programme, they are the highest level of competition for the sport. The championships were first held for men in 1974. Since 1989 the men's championships are held every odd year.

The International Boxing Association (IBA), previously known as the Association Internationale de Boxe Amateur (AIBA), is a sports organization that sanctions amateur and professional boxing matches and awards world and subordinate championships. It is one of the oldest boxing federations in the world, coming into existence after the 1920 Summer Olympics. The IBA consists of five continental confederations, the African Boxing Confederation, American Boxing Confederation, Asian Boxing Confederation, European Boxing Confederation, and Oceania Boxing Confederation. As of 2021, the IBA included 198 national boxing federations. It organises the biennial IBA World Boxing Championships, and governed boxing at the Summer Olympics until 2020.

The European Boxing Confederation(EUBC) is the European governing body in amateur boxing. It is a member of the world governing body AIBA.

The Asian Amateur Boxing Championships is the highest competition for boxing amateurs in Asia. The first tournament took place in 1963, hosted by Bangkok, Thailand.

Uzbekistan Boxing Federation is the governing body of amateur Olympic-style boxing in Uzbekistan. It was founded on March 23, 1920. The Federation was re-founded in 1992 after dissolution of the USSR. The headquarters is located in Tashkent. Uzbekistan Boxing Federation is a member federation of National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It is a member of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) and the Asian Boxing Council (ASBC).

The 2022 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships were held from 1 to 12 November 2022 in Amman, Jordan. It was the third time in the tournament's history that men and women fought in the same championship.

World Boxing is an international sports organization regulating amateur boxing. It was formed in response to the breakdown in relations between the International Olympic Committee and the Russian-led International Boxing Association over governance and integrity problems in the latter.

Javokhir Ummataliev is an Uzbekistani amateur boxer, who won a silver medal at the Youth Asian Championships 2022 held in Amman, Jordan.
