History

In its current form, the Journal was previously published as the Hong Kong Journal of Applied Linguistics, beginning in 1996. [3] In 2013, the Journal changed its name to the Asian Journal of Applied Linguistics as its scope expanded to include the rest of Asia and reduce the focus on Hong Kong.

Reputation

The Journal is included in the Excellence in Research for Australia Journal List which is compiled by the Australian Government's Research Council. [4]

Accessibility

The journal publishes all material in open access format. [3]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Yuen Kwok-yung</span> Hong Kong microbiologist and physician

Yuen Kwok-yung is a Hong Kong microbiologist, physician and surgeon. He is a prolific researcher, with most of his nearly 800 papers related to research on novel microbes or emerging infectious diseases. He led a team identifying the SARS coronavirus that caused the SARS pandemic of 2003–4, and traced its genetic origins to wild bats. During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, he has acted as expert adviser to the Hong Kong government.

Stephen Matthews is a British linguist in Hong Kong. He is Co-Director of the Childhood Bilingualism Research Centre at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His specialist areas include language typology, syntax and semantics. His current interests include the word order typology of Chinese; the grammar of Chinese languages, notably Cantonese, Chaozhou and other Minnan dialects; language contact and bilingualism, with particular reference to Sinitic languages.

Virginia Yip (葉彩燕), is a Hong Kong linguist and writer. She is director of the Childhood Bilingualism Research Centre. She is a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research interests include bilingual language acquisition, second language acquisition, Cantonese, Chaozhou and comparative Sinitic grammar, psycholinguistics, and cognitive science.

Hong Kong University Press is the university press of the University of Hong Kong. It was established in 1956 and publishes more than 50 titles per year in both Chinese and English. Most works in English are on cultural studies, film and media studies, Chinese history and culture.

Mark Bray is the Chair Professor of Comparative Education in the Comparative Education Research Centre (CERC) at the University of Hong Kong.

Suzannah Linton is an academic and practising international lawyer. She has been an academic and researcher at the China University of Political Science and Law, the International Academy of the Red Cross and Red Crescent at Suzhou University, Renmin University of China, and served as distinguished professor at Zhejiang Gongshang University's Law School. She was previously a professor and Chair of International Law at Bangor Law School, Bangor University in Wales.

The Faculty of Arts of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is one of the oldest faculty in the University of Hong Kong, and is considered to be one of Asia's best Arts and Humanities faculties.

Guan Yi is a Chinese virologist. In 2014, he was ranked as 11th in the world by Thomson Reuters among global researchers in the field of microbiology. He obtained his PhD in microbiology at the University of Hong Kong and is now a professor of microbiology at his alma mater. His research on the viral respiratory disease SARS helped the Chinese government avert the 2004 outbreak of this disease. He is the current director of the State Key Laboratory for Emerging Infectious Diseases University of Hong Kong. In early 2017, Guan warned that the H7N9 influenza virus "poses the greatest threat to humanity than any other in the past 100 years".

David James Clarke is honorary professor of modern and contemporary art history at the University of Hong Kong where he taught from 1986 to 2017. He was born in Somerset, England, earned his PhD in art history from the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, in 1983. As an art historian he specialises in the art of Europe, North America and China from the eighteenth century to the present day. He is also active as a visual artist, particularly as a photographer.

ZhangXiang is a Chinese-American physicist, mechanical engineer, and academic administrator. He has been serving as the 16th and current president and vice-chancellor of the University of Hong Kong since July 2018.

The Education Journal is a bi-annual, peer-reviewed academic journal focused on the field of education. The journal was established in 1968 and is published by the Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Articles in the journal are published in either Chinese or English. In 2010, the journal merged with the Journal of Basic Education. After 2018, the journal discontinued its print version, and all subsequent volumes were published online only.

Robert Stuart Bauer is the honorary linguistics professor at the University of Hong Kong and formerly professor of Chinese linguistics at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He began his study of Cantonese in Taiwan from the United States in 1974 while he was learning Mandarin, then he continued his studies as an exchange student at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1970s. Bauer later received his Ph.D. degree in linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1982 and has taught linguistics at universities in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. In 1997, he relocated to Hong Kong permanently, just before the city's handover from British to Chinese sovereignty.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ng Cho-nam</span> Hong Kong environmental studies scholar and conservationist (1960–2019)

Ng Cho-nam, SBS, JP, was a Hong Kong environmental studies scholar and conservationist who taught as an associate professor within the Department of Geography at the University of Hong Kong. He served as a top advisor on numerous Hong Kong government committees in areas of conservation, sustainable development, environmental protection, urban planning, and was an active member in various environmental NGOs. He was the director of the Conservancy Association from 2000 to 2019.

Asian Institute of International Financial Law (AIIFL) is a Think-Tank attached to the Faculty of Law, University of Hong Kong(HKU).
