Asivak Koostachin

Asivak Koostachin (born 1994) is a Cree-Inuk actor from Canada, most noted for his performances in the films Red Snow and Run Woman Run . [1]

The son of filmmaker Jules Arita Koostachin, [2] he had his first major acting role in the APTN drama series AskiBoyz. [3] In 2018 he had a stage role in Theatre for Living's collective play šxʷʔa'ət (home). [4]

Red Snow, his first leading role in a feature film, was released in 2019. [5] He received a Leo Award nomination for Best Lead Performance by a Male in a Motion Picture, and a nomination for Best Actor at the 2019 American Indian Film Festival. [6]

In 2021 he appeared in Run Woman Run as the ghost of Tom Longboat. [7] He received a second nomination for Best Actor at the 2021 American Indian Film Festival, [8] and won the Remi Award for Best Actor at the 2021 WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival. [9] He won the award for Best Supporting Actor at the 2021 American Indian Film Festival for his performance in Portraits from a Fire . [8]

He has also appeared in the films Montana Story [10] and Broken Angel , [11] and has had supporting or guest roles in the television series Letterkenny , Cardinal , Hudson & Rex and Molly of Denali .

Gordon Tootoosis, was a First Nations actor of Cree and Stoney descent. Tootoosis was a descendant of Yellow Mud Blanket, brother of the famous Cree leader Pîhtokahanapiwiyin. He was acclaimed for his commitment to preserving his culture and to telling his people's stories. He once said, "Leadership is about submission to duty, not elevation to power." He served as a founding member of the board of directors of the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company. Tootoosis offered encouragement, support and training to aspiring Aboriginal actors. He served as a leading Cree activist both as a social worker and as a band chief. In Open Season and Boog and Elliot's Midnight Bun Run, Tootoosis was the voice of Sheriff Gordy.

It stars Dakota Ray Hebert as Beck, a single mother whose life has fallen apart; when she is diagnosed with diabetes, however, she decides to pull her life back together by training to run a marathon, during which she begins to see the ghost of Tom Longboat coaching and guiding her.

Broken Angel is a Canadian drama film, directed by Jules Arita Koostachin and released in 2022. The film stars Sera-Lys McArthur as Angel, an indigenous woman who undertakes a journey of spiritual and emotional recovery after taking her daughter Tanis and fleeing an abusive relationship with her husband Earl to return to her home community.
