The PopMatters review by Sean Murphy stated "Those who cherish the oddness in Kang (or, to invoke another of his wonderfully appropriate album titles, the “sweetness of sickness”), won't be disappointed here". [2]
The Allmusic review by Stephen Eddins observed "The music of Athlantis defies easy pigeonholing, so identifying its attributes may be the best way to describe it. Its primary quality is an aura of dark mystery, a sense of conjuring supernatural forces. This is not the kind of piece most people would want to listen to alone in the dark". [3]
Spin noted "Athlantis, Kang's second disc for Ipecac, is truly out there. Inspired by Renaissance-era texts, he utilizes the voices of Mike Patton and Jessika Kenney to render his chillingly phantasmal choral arrangements. Tomahawk is an American rock supergroup. They formed in 1999 when singer/keyboardist Mike Patton met guitar player Duane Denison and the pair started swapping tapes with the intention of collaborating. Denison then recruited drummer John Stanier (Helmet), while Patton invited bass player Kevin Rutmanis (Melvins/ex-Cows). The group recorded three albums and toured extensively from 2000–2007 then went on extended hiatus, and reformed in 2013 with Trevor Dunn replacing Rutmanis.
The Crybaby is the twelfth studio album by American rock band the Melvins, released in 2000 through Ipecac Recordings. It is the last part of a trilogy preceded by The Maggot and The Bootlicker. The trilogy was later released on vinyl by Ipecac Recordings, although the song "Divorced" was edited down and the last four tracks were excluded.

Book of Horizons is the fourth studio album by Secret Chiefs 3, released May 25, 2004. Book of Horizons was the first Secret Chiefs 3 album to reveal the satellite bands that form the actual band under their own names. Out of the seven bands only one, NT Fan, was not heard on the album at all. The other six are The Electromagnetic Azoth, UR, Ishraqiyun, Traditionalists, Holy Vehm and FORMS. Since the release of Book of Horizons the satellite bands have seen several releases of their own.

July is Marissa Nadler's sixth full-length studio album, released in the UK on February 10, 2014, on Bella Union and in North America on Sacred Bones Records. The album was recorded at Seattle's Avast Studios and produced by Randall Dunn. Meeting with a largely positive reception, it debuted at No. 16 on the Billboard Folk Albums chart and No. 14 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers Albums chart. PopMatters called the album a "triumph" and "one of 2014's best albums so far," while Spin called it a "masterfully composed release". Noisey wrote that "the darkly lit July is a moody trip through heat spells and night drives... Nadler's quiet songwriting and ethereal sound give July a sound that's, at times, almost sinister."
