Helgi Áss Grétarsson is an Icelandic chess grandmaster (GM). In 1994 he won the World Junior Chess Championship under 20. One year prior to that he played as a goalkeeper for the Icelandic national soccer team in the 1993 UEFA European Under-16 Championship. Helgi graduated in 2005 with a law degree but in 2018, after many years of hiatus, he became Icelandic Chess Champion for the first time. In April 2024 Helgi became the Icelandic Chess Champion for the second time.Since 2022 Helgi has been a deputy member of Reykjavík City Council.

2. deild karla or D2 is the third-tier basketball competition among clubs in Iceland. It is organized by the Icelandic Basketball Federation . It consists of 11 teams and the season consists of a home-and-away schedule of 20 games. The top four non-reserve teams meet in a playoff for the victory in the league and promotion to 1. deild karla.

Friðrik Erlendur Stefánsson is an Icelandic former professional basketball player who spent 17 seasons with Njarðvík, winning the Icelandic national championship three times and the Icelandic Basketball Cup three times.

Bjarni Felixson, commonly known as Bjarni Fel, was an Icelandic footballer, sports reporter and commentator. Nicknamed The Red Lion due to his red hair, he won six caps for the Iceland national team between 1962 and 1964. He played for Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur for several seasons, winning the national championship five times and the Icelandic Cup seven times. Following his playing career, he became a sports reporter and commentator for RÚV for 42 years.

On 5 April 1986, at 13:26, an Eagle Air Piper PA-23-250 Aztec light aircraft crashed in Ljósufjöll in Snæfellsnes, Iceland killing five of the occupants on board. The aircraft was on a charter flight from Ísafjörður to Reykjavík and carried six passengers, including a couple with an 11-month-old child, and a pilot. It was believed that the plane landed in a downdraft and crashed into the slopes of Ljósufjöll, south of Sóleyjardalur. It remains one of the deadliest aviation accidents in Iceland's history and resulted in changes to aviation regulations and procedures to increase the flow of up-to-date weather information to pilots.

Eyleifur Hafsteinsson is an Icelandic former footballer who played as a forward. He won the Icelandic championship in 1968, 1970 and 1974 and the Icelandic Cup in 1966. He was part of the Iceland national team between 1964 and 1972, playing 26 matches and scoring 4 goals.

Halldór Laxness Halldórsson, better known as Dóri DNA, is an Icelandic actor, author, comedian, rapper and television personality. He has hosted the TV-shows Skítamix on Stöð 2 and Veislan on RÚV. In 2020, he started appearing as Colonel Sanders in advertisements for KFC in Iceland. In May 2022, he released the single Því þú átt það skilið, along with Þormóður Eiríksson and Króli, and appeared as Sanders in the music video.
