Jón Arnór Stefánsson is an Icelandic basketball player and a former member of the Icelandic national team. One of Iceland's most successful athletes of the early 21st century, he was the Icelandic Sportsperson of the Year in 2014 and a 12-time Icelandic Male Basketball Player of the Year. A three-time Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year, he won the Icelandic championship five times and the FIBA Europe League once. He spent most of his career in Spain, Italy and Iceland, winning the Italian Basketball Cup in 2006 and the Icelandic Cup in 2017.

Presidential elections were held in Iceland on 25 June 2016. President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, elected in 1996, stepped down after serving five consecutive terms. The history professor Guðni Th. The Tindastóll men's basketball team, commonly known as Tindastóll, is the men's basketball department of the Ungmennafélagið Tindastóll sport club. It is based in Sauðárkrókur, Iceland. As of the 2018–19 season it played in Úrvalsdeild karla. In 2015 and 2018, it was the runner up to the Icelandic national championship. On January 13, 2018, the club won its first major title when it beat KR in the Icelandic Basketball Cup finals. On 30 September 2018, Tindastóll defeated KR in the Icelandic Super Cup, 103-72.

Helena Sverrisdóttir is an Icelandic former basketball player. Generally considered the greatest Icelandic female basketball player of all time, she was named the Icelandic Women's Basketball Player of the Year 12 times. During her playing career, she won the Icelandic championship five times and the Slovak championship two times.

The Úrvalsdeild Karla Player of the Year is an award for the top-tier basketball league in Iceland, the men's Úrvalsdeild. It was first awarded in 1968, to Birgir Örn Birgis, and the first trophy was given by Dave Zinkoff of the Philadelphia 76ers. On 5 April 1986, at 13:26, an Eagle Air Piper PA-23-250 Aztec light aircraft crashed in Ljósufjöll in Snæfellsnes, Iceland killing five of the occupants on board. The aircraft was on a charter flight from Ísafjörður to Reykjavík and carried six passengers, including a couple with an 11-month-old child, and a pilot. It was believed that the plane landed in a downdraft and crashed into the slopes of Ljósufjöll, south of Sóleyjardalur. It remains one of the deadliest aviation accidents in Iceland's history and resulted in changes to aviation regulations and procedures to increase the flow of up-to-date weather information to pilots.

Úlfur Úlfur is an Icelandic hip-hop duo which consists of singers Arnar Freyr Frostason and Helgi Sæmundur Guðmundsson. Their first album, Föstudagurinn langi came out in 2011 and their second, Tvær plánetur, came out in 2015. In 2017, it published their third album, named Hefnið okkar.
