Craig Michael Conroy is an American former professional ice hockey player and the current general manager of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). A sixth-round selection of the Montreal Canadiens at the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, Conroy played 1,009 NHL games for the Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings during a professional career that spanned from 1994 to 2011. Internationally, he twice played with the United States National Team – at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Christopher The Cross Higgins is an American former professional ice hockey winger and current Skills and Development coach for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL). While playing college hockey, he was selected 14th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He finished a two-year career with the Yale Bulldogs, earning ECAC Hockey Player of the Year honors as a sophomore, before turning professional for the 2003–04 season. After two seasons with the Canadiens' minor league affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League (AHL), he joined the NHL in 2005–06. He recorded three consecutive 20-goal seasons to begin his NHL career before being traded to the New York Rangers in June 2009. After brief stints with the Rangers, Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers, he joined the Vancouver Canucks in February 2011. Internationally, Higgins has competed for the United States in two World Junior Championships and one World Championship (2009).

HV71, often referred to as just HV, is a Swedish professional ice hockey club based in Jönköping, playing in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), the first tier of Swedish ice hockey. The team played in the 2008–09 Champions Hockey League season, and also participates in the new Champions Hockey League tournament since the 2014–15 season. Between 2008 and 2013, HV also participated in the European Trophy tournament. With the exception of a one-year stint in the 2021–22 season in Sweden's second tier, HockeyAllsvenskan, where they won the promotion playoffs, the club has played continuously in the SHL since 1985.

William Mitchell is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He is known primarily as a physical defensive defenceman. Mitchell played Junior A in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) and Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) before joining the college ranks with the Clarkson Knights of ECAC Hockey in 1997. He won an ECAC championship with Clarkson in 1999, while also earning playoff MVP and ECAC First Team All-Star honours.

The 2004–05 QMJHL season was the 36th season in the history of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The QMJHL inaugurates the Guy Carbonneau Trophy, awarded to the league's "Best Defensive Forward," and the Kevin Lowe Trophy, awarded to the league's "Best Defensive Defenceman." Sixteen teams played 70 games each in the schedule.

The Atlantic Hockey Individual Sportsmanship Award is an annual award given out at the conclusion of the Atlantic Hockey regular season to the player best exemplifying the qualities of sportsmanship in the conference as voted by the coaches of each Atlantic Hockey team.

The Atlantic Hockey Regular Season Scoring Trophy is an annual award given out at the conclusion of the Atlantic Hockey regular season to the player(s) that finishes with the highest point total. Atlantic Hockey is the only Division I conference that formally recognizes its scoring champion.

The Atlantic Hockey Most Valuable Player in Tournament is an annual award given out at the conclusion of the Atlantic Hockey conference tournament to the most valuable player in the championship as voted by the coaches of each Atlantic Hockey team. The recipient of the tournament MVP has come from the championship team each time it has been awarded. (as of 2013)

The Hockey East Best Defensive Defenseman is an annual award given out at the conclusion of the Hockey East regular season to the best defensive defenseman in the conference as voted by the head coaches of each Hockey East team.

The Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Year is an annual award given out at the conclusion of the Atlantic Hockey regular season to the best goaltender in the conference as voted by the coaches of each Atlantic Hockey team. It was first awarded in 2024.
