Atul Debbarma (born 8 January 1965) is an Indian doctor-turned-politician and author. He was a practicing doctor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi until December 2017. He became involved with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its different wings such as Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram and Vivekananda International Foundation in 2007. He won the Tripura Assembly Elections 2018 as the BJP candidate from Krishnapur constituency. [1] [2]
Atul Debbarma was born in Teliamura,Tripura to Ishwar Chandra Debbarma and Bidya Laxmi Debbarma. He graduated from High School and Higher Secondary School from Tripura Board of Secondary Education in first division. He completed his MBBS degree and earned a Diploma in Child Health from Nagpur University. He holds an LL. B degree from Delhi University.
He worked as a Medical Officer in a Mobile Health Team in Tripura ADC government from 1991-1992 during which he toured throughout the state. He joined the Municipal Corporation of Delhi as a Medical Officer in December 1992 through CMSE conducted by UPSC. He voluntarily retired from his post of Chief Medical Officer,Senior Administrative Grade in December 2017.
During his 25 years of service,he underwent many trainings from institutions including LBS National Academy of Administration (Mussoorie),Chulalongkorn University in Thailand (WHO Fellowship Program),Indian Institute of Public Administration (New Delhi),Central Health Education Bureau (New Delhi),National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (New Delhi).
Debbarma associated himself with nationalist ideology in 1992 and became affiliated to BJP. He became an active member of RSS and has been associated with its different wings since 2007.
He founded many organizations pertaining to the cultural and social awakening of Tripuri people:
He has supported activities such as distributing free medicines,giving health talks and distributing blankets to the underprivileged as part of free medical camps in rural areas. He organized events such as free yoga camps to promote cultural awakening among the youth.
He has written 2 short stories and a novel 1980 (based on 1980 riots in Tripura) in Kokborok. He published a Kokborok translation of the Bhagavad Gita with in-depth analysis. He translated the Rajmala (The Royal Chronicle of Tripura) and the Tripur Samhita to Kokborok. Another novel Mungkwrwi and a Kokborok translation of Gitanjali,though completed,are yet to be published. Among non-fictional works,he has written various essays,critical analyses and debates on issues on culture,customs,religion and spirituality in local dailies,magazines and periodicals in Kokborok,Bengali and English.
In 2001,he hosted website www.tripura.org,which provides in-depth information on various aspects of Tripura.
He has 3 younger siblings - 1 sister and 2 brothers. He is married to Madhabi Debbarma,also Chief Medical Officer in MCD,since 1993 and has 2 daughters.
His novel 1980 was praised by critics. It has been included in the curriculum of Tripura University. He was awarded the Radha Mohan Thakur Literary Award and the Salil Krishna Debbarman Memorial Award by Tripura Government in 2006 for this novel.

Kirit Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma Bahadur is the current head of the Tripuri royal family and is the titular king. He was born in New Delhi,and now resides in Agartala,Tripura. He also served as the editor of TNT-The Northeast Today. He is the current chairman of The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance also known as TIPRA Motha. He is known as 'Bubagra' among his people and is one of the active voices for the rights of Indigenous Tripuri people of Tripura.
Tripuri Kshatriya is a Vaishnav caste group which encompasses almost all the members of the Tripuri,Reang,Jamatia and Noatia ethnic groups,most of whom live in the Indian state of Tripura. The Tripuri Royal Family belonged to the Tripuri ethnic group,from the Debbarma clan. Originally the term "Tripur Kshatriya" was used to denote the Tripuri ethnic group only,but in due time,the Maharajah included the remaining three ethnic groups as well,in an attempt to foster a sense of kinship among his people. With the influx of the Bengali immigrants from neighboring places,the Tripuris lost their majority in their own kingdom and the Maharajah's power was taken away by the Indian government. Formerly,the community was organized under the Tripura Kshatriya Samaj,which was headed by the Maharajah of Tripura himself.
The Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) is a regional political party in Tripura,India. It is a member of the National Democratic Alliance and North-East Democratic Alliance. The party was merged into the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) in 2001,However diverged out in 2009. The party is allied with BJP in the 2018 Tripura Legislative Assembly election and won 8 seats out of 9 contested seats. The party got 7.5% of the total votes polled. The BJP got 36 seats and with a total of 44 seats the BJP-IPFT coalition have two-thirds majority at the Legislative Assembly.
Sudip Roy Barman is an Indian politician from Tripura. He served as the MLA of the Tripura Legislative Assembly from the Agartala constituency which he held since 1998 by winning four elections consecutively on INC ticket by handsome margins. In 2018,he contested from Agartala constituency and won on BJP ticket. On 7 February 2022,he quit BJP and resigned from his MLA post. On 8 February he joined the Indian National Congress in Delhi. Again on 23 June 2022,he contested from Agartala constituency and won on INC ticket defeating his nearest rival of BJP by more than 3500 votes.
Kokborok Day is a festival celebrated in the Indian state of Tripura to celebrate the development of the Kokborok language. It is observed on 19 January every year. The Kokborok language is an official language in Tripura. This day is chosen to commemorate its initial recognition as an official language in 1979. The activities include cultural programmes and literary activities.

Nanda Kumar Deb Barma is a Tipra playwright,poet and lyricist from Tripura. He is known for his works of literature in Kokborok language and Kokborok Drama. Nanda Kumar Deb Barma is author of novels such as Rung (2001),and compilations of works such as Thungnuk Bwchap (2015). He has been one of the active advocates for Kokborok development in the field of literature and education and is the president of Kokborok Sahitya Sabha.
