Audioconfusion is a recording studio in Mesa, Arizona. It was established 1996. The newest incarnation of the studio was built in 2006. It is owned and operated by Jalipaz Nelson. Audioconfusion is notable for its production and recording of various independent Phoenix bands, [1] especially the first four studio albums by AJJ (and the majority of all of their recorded output with the exception of their two most recent studio records). The studio's sound emphasizes natural reverb [2] and live recording methods. [3]

History

Originally from Pennsylvania, Jalipaz Nelson settled in Arizona at the premature culmination of a road trip when he was hindered from crossing the California border due to ferret regulations. [4] In 1995, Nelson attended an introductory recording program in Ohio prior to starting Audioconfusion in 1996. In 2004, he began The Audioconfusion Manifesto. In 2006, he constructed a new studio which measures 1000 ft2. [3] He later partnered with Dan Somers, an early department head of Radio Phoenix. [5]

The Audioconfusion Manifesto was an independent record label and musical collective (the titular manifesto was non-existent). Bands in the Phoenix scene organized around recording at the newly constructed Audioconfusion studio. Participating bands included AJJ, Peachcake, and Asleep in the Sea. [6] The first studio album by AJJ, Candy Cigarettes & Cap Guns, was originally released by The Audioconfusion Manifesto and recorded at Audioconfusion, [7] prior to being re-released on Asian Man Records. In 2010, a similar collective and label outfit called Black Cactus Records was founded. [8] [9] Both Nelson and Somers were founding members. [10]

Fervor Records is an American independent record label based in Phoenix, Arizona. The company was founded in 1989 and is now owned and operated by David Hilker and Jeff Freundlich. The label creates compilations of previously released and unreleased music, reissues original albums and singles, and releases music from heritage and contemporary artists across numerous genres. The catalog includes many Billboard charting songs as well as major label, Hall of Fame, and Grammy Award-winning artists. Hans Olson, is an American musician and songwriter. He is a singer and plays an amplified acoustic guitar and a harmonica in a neck rack. He is known as one of the best "harp-in-a-rack" players in the world. Olson helped to establish and organize the Phoenix Blues Society (1988), the Arizona Green Party (1991), the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame (1995), the Arizona Music Heritage Foundation and the Arizona Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (2002). In 1996, Olson was inducted into the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame. Both Phoenix Magazine and Phoenix New Times named Olson as one of the most influential musicians in Arizona.

AJJ (band) American folk-punk band

AJJ is an American folk punk band from Phoenix, Arizona originally formed in 2004 as Andrew Jackson Jihad. Their lyrics handle themes of shyness, poverty, humanity, religion, addiction, existentialism, and politics. AJJ's core members are singer/guitarist Sean Bonnette and bassist Ben Gallaty.

The Baseball Project American rock band

The Baseball Project is a supergroup composed of Peter Buck, Mike Mills, Scott McCaughey, Steve Wynn and Linda Pitmon formed in 2007. The performers came together from discussions between McCaughey and Wynn at R.E.M.'s March 21, 2007 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. They invited Buck to play bass guitar and Pitmon on drums and recorded their first album, Volume 1: Frozen Ropes and Dying Quails later that year. Buck and McCaughey have previously played together in Robyn Hitchcock and The Venus 3, The Minus 5, R.E.M., and Tuatara. Wynn is the former leader of The Dream Syndicate as well as Gutterball and currently plays with Pitmon in Steve Wynn & the Miracle 3.

People Who Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People in the World is the second studio album by American folk punk band Andrew Jackson Jihad. The album was released by Asian Man Records on September 11, 2007. The title is derived from a line in Kurt Vonnegut's book, Hocus Pocus which itself is a reference to Barbra Streisand's song "People." The album was recorded and mixed by Jalipaz Nelson at Audioconfusion in Mesa, Arizona. The album artwork was illustrated by Ryan Piscitelli. "People II: The Reckoning" features an interpolation of Simon and Garfunkel's song "Mrs. Robinson".

The Sunnyslope community is an established neighborhood within the borders of the city of Phoenix, Arizona. The geographic boundaries are 19th Avenue to the west, Cactus Road to the north, 16th Street to the east, and Northern Avenue to the south. Erik Nelson is an American Grammy-nominated songwriter, music producer and recording engineer. His first commercial studio, Sinewave Studios, opened in 1994 in Bloomington, IL. It was at Sinewave that Nelson recorded, mixed and mastered the EP "Kill, I Oughtta" for Mudvayne. After Mudvayne's major label debut "L.D. 50", their label, Epic, re-released "Kill, I Oughtta" under the title "The Beginning of All Things to End" with some additional remixes from "L.D. 50".

Decker has released 7 albums while consistently touring substantially across the United States. While performing tour stops at traditional music venues, decker. gained notoriety for almost daily impromptu street performances he and his band gave during the course of a 99-show tour for his 2010 release, Long as the Night.

The Necronauts is a band originally from Mesa, Arizona. It has been active for well over ten years and maintains a place in the Arizona punk rock scene, and has now started to find a place nationwide.

J.D. Stooks is an American singer-songwriter from Phoenix, Arizona. He played guitar in Phoenix based punk rock band No Gimmick before setting out on a solo career in 2005.

Andy warpigs is a singer/songwriter from West Phoenix Arizona. He is known for his sarcastic folk punk style, his signature travel guitar, and for playing unconventional venues and spaces as well as being a figurehead in the national DIY scene. Warpigs starred as Dr. Frank-n-Furter in the stage production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Firehouse ArtSpace in Phoenix, Arizona.

Red Tank!

Red Tank! is an American punk band from Phoenix, Arizona, United States that is currently based in New York, New York. They are known for their erratic sound and "high energy" performances which propel introspective, complex lyricism. They have been described as "caffeinated [punk]... perfect for wrecking a living room: a combination of soaring scream-alongs and ecstatic existential anthems."

<i>Howdilly Doodilly</i> 2016 studio album by Okilly Dokilly

Howdilly Doodilly is the first studio album by Phoenix-based, Ned Flanders-themed metalcore band Okilly Dokilly, released on November 11, 2016. According to the band, the lyrics contain "75% Ned quotes and 25% other characters/original." The album was recorded and mixed by Jalipaz Nelson at Audioconfusion in Mesa, Arizona in early 2016.

Diners is the stage name of guitar pop musician Tyler Blue Broderick. They play both solo and with a full band.
