Augustus Nuwagaba is an international consultant on economic transformation. He is a wealth creation expert in Africa. He is qualified (MBA)in application of central bank monetary policy on commercial bank competitiveness. Prof. Nuwagaba has worked intensively in analysis of fiscal metrics for governments in Africa, review of financial performance and analysis of tax policies. He works as the managing consultant at REEV Consult International Limited, a private consultancy firm, incorporated in Uganda, with headquarters at plot 515 Bombo road within the city of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. He was Consultant for the African Peer Review Mechanism under NEPAD, was a member of the African Regional Panel of Experts on Development. Nuwagaba is a member of the World Bank Consultative Group that developed the African Plan of Action. He was the team leader of FINSCOPE - Financial Penetration Project (2013). He was a team leader for Developing Financial Management and Training manual for Parliamentary Accountability Committees, member of audit committee of the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development of the Republic of Uganda, winner of International Award for significant Contribution to World Society and Appears In World Who is Who (2004), page 336. In addition, he was a consultant for mid-term review of the National Development Plan for the Republic of Uganda [2010/11–2014/15]. He is a consultant for formulating the East African Community development investment plan (2016/17-2020/21). Nuwagaba is a regular speaker at the induction of members of parliament of Uganda. [1]

Background and education

He was born in 1964 in Kabale Municipality in the Western Region of Uganda, the sixth-born in a family of seven siblings. His father died when Nuwagaba was four years old, so he was raised by his mother, who died, when Nuwagaba was in Senior 2, at age of 16. [2]

He attended Kigezi High School from 1979 to 1985, serving as head prefect during his stay. In 1986. he entered Makerere University faculty of Social Sciences, graduating in 1989. Later he graduated from the London School of Economics with the degree of Master of Science. He returned to Makerere University and pursued studies leading to the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. His field of specialization for his doctorate degree was Economics, Inclusive growth and Poverty Eradication. He also holds the degree of Master of Business Administration obtained from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute majoring in monetary policy and commercial bank competitiveness. [3]

Career

Nuwagaba has been a member of the teaching staff at Makerere University, since he returned from his master's degree studies in London in the early 2000s. He serves as the chairperson of the Makerere University Academic Staff Association. [4] He also serves as the Managing Consultant at Reev Consult International Limited, a private consultancy firm, incorporated in Uganda in 2000. The company offers consultancy services in the areas of impact assessments, planning, social policy analysis, management services and institutional development services. The overall objective of the company is to achieve capacity development and poverty reduction in the geographical areas that they serve. Over the years, Reev Consult has provided consultancy services to International organizations including the World Bank, European Union, UNDP, USAID, DFID, UNFPA, DANIDA; SNV, IDRC, African governments, CSOs and the private sector. He has been a key note speaker at both National and International level (Uganda celebrating 50 year, Dublin International conference, Orienting of 9th and 10th parliament of Uganda). [5]

Personal details

Augustus Nuwagaba has been married to Lillian Nuwagaba since 1997. Together they are the parents of four children. He is of the Christian faith. He is a Rotarian with Rotary Club of Muyenga district 9211 (Major Donor). [6] He is the 34th President of the club serving in the Rotary year 2021-2022. [7]

Perez Ahabwe is a Ugandan economist and politician who was the State Minister for Local Government in Uganda from 16 February 2009 to 27 May 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011, he was dropped from the cabinet and replaced by Alex Onzima. He also served as the elected member of Parliament, representing Rubanda County East, Kabale District, from 2001 to 2011, before losing to Henry Musasizi in the 2011 general election. On 7 June 2019, Ahabwe was appointed by Monica Azuba Ntege, Uganda's Minister of Works and Transport as the Chairman of the newly inaugurated Uganda Airlines National Company Board of Directors.

Yashpal Tandon is a Ugandan policymaker, political activist, professor, author and public intellectual. He has lectured extensively in the areas of International Relations and Political economy. He was deeply involved in the struggle against the dictatorship of Idi Amin in 1970's Uganda and has spent time in exile. He is the author and editor of numerous books and articles and has served on the editorial boards of many journals.

Samuel Kisakye Sejjaaka is a Ugandan accountant, academic and businessman. He is Principal and Country Team Leader at MAT ABACUS Business School. Between 1993 and 2014, he lectured at Uganda's oldest tertiary institution, Makerere University and rose to the position of Deputy Principal. In December 2014, he retired from the institution at age 50. He then helped establish Abacus Business School, Uganda's premier executive education institution. In 2019, Abacus Business school merged with the Management Accountancy Training Company (MAT) to form MAT ABACUS Business School.

Stephen Robert Isabalija, is a Ugandan civil servant, management professional, accountant, academic and academic administrator. He is the immediate past permanent secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development in Uganda, having served in that capacity from November 2016, until his termination on 24 August 2017.

Kiira Motors Corporation or KMC is a State Enterprise in Uganda established to champion the Development of the Domestic Automotive Value Chain for job and wealth creation and commercialize the Kiira Electric Vehicle Project. The Equity Partners are the Government of the Republic of Uganda represented by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Office of the President holding 96% of the initial stock and Makerere University holding 4%.

Judith Tukahirwa Tumusiime is a Ugandan environmental scientist, water and sanitation consultant, and former management executive. She is the immediate past deputy executive director of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). She was appointed to that position in December 2012. She resigned on 31 October 2016, citing interference from politicians and security agencies.

Isaac Mulindwa Ssozi is a Ugandan procurement specialist, logistician and politician. He is the elected member of parliament for Lugazi Municipality, Buikwe District, and a representative for NRM, the ruling political party in Uganda. He is a member of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus and serves on the Committee on Equal Opportunities and the Committee on Finance, Planning and Economic Development in the 10th Parliament of Uganda.

Sarah Ssali, is a Ugandan social scientist, researcher, academic and academic administrator, who is an associate professor and dean of the School of Gender Studies at Makerere University, Uganda's oldest and largest public university.

Lorna Magara is the first woman to be elected chairperson of the Makerere University Council, since the founding of the university in 1922. She was elected to a renewable four-year term, effective 20 December 2018. The Council is a 27-member body that serves as the supreme governing organ of Uganda's largest and oldest public university.

Apollo Nelson Makubuya is a Ugandan corporate lawyer and author, who serves as the chairperson of the board of directors at Equity Bank Uganda Limited, one of Uganda's commercial banks. He was appointed to that position in March 2017.

Wilberforce Kisamba Mugerwa, also Wilberforce Kisamba-Mugerwa, was a Ugandan agricultural economist, politician and academic, who served as the chairman of the Uganda Microfinance Support Center, a government-owned company established in 2001, that manages micro credit programs in Uganda, funded by the African Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank and the Ugandan government. Immediately prior to his last position, for the ten years between 2008 and 2018, he served as the chairman of the National Planning Authority of Uganda.

Dominica or Dominic Dipio is a Ugandan religious sister, a filmmaker, author and a professor of Literature and Film at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. As a sister, she belongs to the Institute of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church, MSMMC, a Ugandan-founded religious congregation in Roman Catholic Diocese of Lira in Northern Uganda. In November 2019 she was appointed Consultor of the Pontifical Council for Culture by Pope Francis.

Goretti Masadde is currently the chief executive officer of the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services, based in Kampala, Uganda's capital city. She took up her assignment at the institute in March 2020. She concurrently serves as a director of Nutreal Limited, a manufacturer and distributor of healthy snack foods, a company she co-founded in 2010.

Rehmah Kasule is a Ugandan social entrepreneur, public speaker and author. She is the founder of CEDA International a non-profit organization in Uganda.
