Aureus University School of Medicine (previously named as All Saints University of Medicine) is a private university located in Oranjestad, Aruba, in the Caribbean. Aureus confers upon its graduates the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. [1]

History

Aureus University School of Medicine was founded in 2004 in Aruba. On January 4, 2011, the school announced it was changing its name from All Saints University of Medicine to coincide with facility enhancements and to distinguish itself from universities with the same name. [2] The current campus was completed in 2012 and contains 8 lecture halls. [ citation needed ]

Curriculum

Aureus offers a 4-year and 5 year MD degree program. The 4 year MD program is a 11 semester course of study that consists of three semesters per calendar year; the 5 year MD program includes an additional 3 semesters of pre-medical coursework.

Semesters 1-5 of the MD program are basic sciences (integrated) semesters that are completed at the university's Aruba campus. Laboratory experiences are an integral part of these first two years, along with small group discussions designed for systems-based learning and early integration of basic sciences into the clinical experience. The school offers the NBME CBSE exam and Kaplan Review course for the USMLE Step1 examination.

Semesters 6-11, clinical rotations, consist of 72–80 weeks of clinical study that include 48 weeks of core rotations and 24 weeks of elective rotations that are completed at affiliated hospitals in the United States and Canada. 

Tuition

MD 1-5 tuition is on average $6,995 per semester for student attending the main campus in Aruba. Clinical tuition is on average $8,495 per semester. 

Accreditation

Aureus University School of Medicine is chartered in and recognized by the government of Aruba. Aureus is listed in ECFMG and FAIMER, the International Medical Education Directory (IMED), the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Medical Council of Canada (MCC). Aureus students are eligible to take the USMLE Step examinations and are eligible to participate in the National Resident Match Program (NRMP).

American University of the Caribbean International medical school

The American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) is an international, for-profit, U.S. curriculum-based medical school with a main basic science campus in Sint Maarten, and is based in Pembroke Pines, Florida. The school is owned by Adtalem Global Education, formerly DeVry Inc. since 2011, AUC is accredited by Accreditation Commission of Colleges of Medicine, which accredits Caribbean medical schools. AUC is currently recognised by the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom, meaning graduates post September 2019 are eligible for practice there. AUC is included in the list of approved schools recognized by the Medical Board of California, a list that is frequently used throughout the United States by ACGME-accredited residency programs to validate international medical school credentials for postgraduate training.

Caribbean Medical University

Caribbean Medical University (CMU) is an independent, for-profit, U.S. curriculum-based medical school. It is located on the island of Curaçao in the southern Caribbean Sea, off the Venezuelan coast. The main campus is located in the Piscadera Bay area of Willemstad. After a total of four years of training, students are awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine (M.D.).

The University also has an administrative office located in Tucker, Georgia, of the United States. AUIS follows a US medical curriculum and confers upon its graduates the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. Classes are taught in English.

Saint James School of Medicine (SJSM) is a private, international medical school with two basic science campuses, one in British Overseas Territory of Anguilla, and the other in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, it is considered one school with two campuses. Atlantic University School of Medicine

Atlantic University School of Medicine (AUSOM) was an offshore private medical school, located in St. Lucia from its foundation in 2010 until August 2017 and then in St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda until December 2017, when it closed.

Alexander American University

The Alexander American University (AAU) is a private medical school with its main campus in Georgetown, Guyana. Graduates obtain a Medical Doctorate upon completion of the five year medical program.

Washington University of Barbados

The Washington University of Barbados (WUB) was established in 2016 and was granted charter from the Ministry of Education of Barbados during the same year. The university claimed to be devoted to preparing and educating students from across the globe to become professional doctors, but has been named as part of an international medical school scam. Both Dr. Rap and Mr. Dalchand have been arrested and charged before the Magistrates Court at District C in Barbados. Both are charged that they defrauded Casa Grande Hotel in St Philip; Furniture Ltd and Builders Mart. These are all businesses owned Mrs Ram Merchandani the owner of Casa Grande Hotel; the campus of the University. The charges arose when cheques tendered for services by these companies were dishonoured by the bank. The sums of monies are in excess of $300000.00 BDS. Both men are remanded in prison in Barbados awaiting hearing. They are set to reappear on Monday 22 September 2018.
