Austin Stowell (born December 24, 1984) is an American actor. He is known for his roles in Dolphin Tale , its sequel Dolphin Tale 2 , Love and Honor (2013), Whiplash (2014), Francis Gary Powers in Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies (2015). [1] [2] [3] [4] , Nately in Catch-22 (2019) and The Hating Game (2021).

Early life

Stowell was born as the youngest of three sons, in Kensington, Connecticut. There, he was raised by his father, Robert (a retired steelworker), and his mother, Elizabeth (a schoolteacher). [5]

He graduated from Berlin High School in 2003, with the intention of pursuing a professional career in acting. Upon acceptance at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut, he studied with the Department of Dramatic Arts, a division of the School of Fine Arts. [2] He performed in several productions with the Connecticut Repertory Theatre, including Julius Caesar , It Can't Happen Here , and As You Like It . He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2007. [6]

Bridge of Spies is a 2015 American historical drama film directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg, written by Matt Charman and the Coen brothers, and starring Tom Hanks in the lead role, Mark Rylance, Amy Ryan, and Alan Alda. Set during the Cold War, the film tells the story of lawyer James B. Donovan, who is entrusted with negotiating the release of Francis Gary Powers—a convicted Central Intelligence Agency pilot whose U-2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union in 1960—in exchange for Rudolf Abel, a convicted Soviet KGB spy held by the United States, whom Donovan represented at trial. The name of the film refers to the Glienicke Bridge, which connects Potsdam with Berlin, where the prisoner exchange took place. The film was an international co-production of the United States and Germany.

Bridge of Spies (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is the soundtrack to the Steven Spielberg-directed historical drama film Bridge of Spies, released by Hollywood Records, alongside the film on October 16, 2015. It is the second Spielberg film not to be scored by John Williams after The Color Purple (1985). The film was scored by Thomas Newman, who replaced Williams in March 2015, due to health complications. The score was critically acclaimed and received nominations for Academy Award for Best Original Score and BAFTA Award for Best Film Music in 2016.
