The Australasian Martial Arts Hall of Fame Inc. founded in 1996 gives recognition to influential martial art practitioners throughout Australasia. [1] [2] The hall of fame recognizes those who make an outstanding contribution to martial arts, consistently demonstrate excellence, and unselfishly promote the growth of martial arts. The Courier-Mail is an Australian newspaper published in Brisbane. Owned by News Corp Australia, it is published daily from Monday to Saturday in tabloid format. Cynthia Rothrock is an American martial artist and actress. She holds black belt rankings in seven styles of martial arts and was a high-level competitor in martial arts before becoming an actress. In 2014, she was inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame.

The Merrett–Murray Medal has been awarded annually since 1997, to the player adjudged the Brisbane Lions club champion over the immediately preceding Australian Football League (AFL) season. It is named after Roger Merrett and Kevin Murray. Merrett was a champion at the Brisbane Bears, while Murray was a legend at the Fitzroy Lions, the two clubs which merged to form the Brisbane Lions. The voting system, as of the 2017 AFL season, consists of the senior coach and assistant coaches scoring players based on their overall performance, influence on the game, team contribution and compliance with team values. The most votes a player can receive in a single game is twelve.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">William Cheung</span> Chinese-born Australian Grandmaster of Wing Chun Kung Fu

William Cheung or Cheung Cheuk-hing is a Hong Kong Wing Chun kung fu practitioner and currently the Grandmaster of his lineage of Wing Chun, entitled Traditional Wing Chun (TWC). He also heads the sanctioning body of TWC, the Global Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu Association (GTWCKFA). He is the recipient of a Masters Award for lifetime achievement in Kung Fu from Martial Arts Australia.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">ARIA Hall of Fame</span> Australian music award

Since 1988 the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) has inducted artists into its annual ARIA Hall of Fame. While most have been recognised at the annual ARIA Music Awards, in 2005 ARIA sought to create a separate standalone ceremony ARIA Icons: Hall of Fame event as only one or two acts could be inducted under the old format due to time restrictions. Since 2005 VH1 obtained the rights to broadcast the show live on Foxtel, Austar and Optus networks; and each year five or six acts were inducted into the Hall of Fame with an additional act inducted at the following ARIA Music Awards.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Australian Football Hall of Fame</span> Professional sports hall of fame

The Australian Football Hall of Fame was established in 1996, the centenary year of the Australian Football League, to help recognise the contributions made to the sport of Australian rules football by players, umpires, media personalities, coaches and administrators. It was initially established with 136 inductees. As of 2024, this figure has grown to more than 300, including 32 "Legends". Jason Dunstall became the most recent inductee to achieve Legend status in 2024. There had previously been 32 official Legends prior to Dunstall's elevation, but disgraced player Barry Cable had his football honours rescinded after being found guilty of historical child sex abuse.

The John Worsfold Medal is an Australian rules football award presented annually to the player(s) adjudged the best and fairest at the West Coast Eagles throughout the Victorian Football League/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL) season.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Trevor Barker Award</span> Australian rules football award

The Trevor Barker Award is an Australian rules football award for the player voted the St Kilda Football Club best and fairest player during the home and away season in the Australian Football League by a voting panel.

The John Cahill Medal, named after the Port Adelaide Football Club's ten time premiership coach and inaugural AFL coach John Cahill, is awarded to the club player adjudged best and fairest for the season. The voting system as of the 2017 AFL season, consists of each member of the coaching committee giving each player a ranking from zero to five after each match.

The Syd Barker Medal is awarded to the North Melbourne Football Club player who has been judged the best and fairest of the footy season. The award has been given out continuously since 1937. Before then it was known as the Syd Barker Memorial Trophy.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Richard Norton (actor)</span> Australian martial artist, actor, stuntman (b. 1950)

Richard Norton is an Australian martial artist, actor, stunt performer, stunt coordinator, security consultant, and fight choreographer. He holds a 5th dan black belt in Gōjū-ryū karate, a 6th dan black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, an 8th dan black belt in Chun Kuk Do, and a level 6 ranking in American kickboxing. After high school, Norton worked as a bodyguard in the entertainment business before pursuing an acting career.

Constantino 'Tino' Ceberano, commonly referred to as Hanshi Ceberano, is a karate master who is a key figure in Australian martial arts history. He is a direct student of Gōju Kai karate founder Gōgen Yamaguchi (1909–1989). A native of Hawaii, Ceberano moved to Australia in 1966 at Yamaguchi's request, to establish Gōju Kai karate there.

Kim Pyung-soo, also known as Kim Soo, is a South Korean taekwondo practitioner.

Paul Zadro, is an Australian martial artist, sport administrator and promoter. He is currently the chairman of the International Sports Karate Association in Australia and an 8th Degree Black Belt in Kempo Karate.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Don Bendell</span> American novelist

Don Bendell is an American author, rancher, tracker, and Vietnam combat veteran. He has published 31 books and assisted in exposing former Atlantic City Mayor Bob Levy's claims of serving as a Green Beret as false.

Gerard "Gerry" Thomas Ryan is an Australian businessman, investor, racehorse owner and sports enthusiast. Ryan is the owner and founder of Jayco Australia, as well as owning wineries, resorts, the theatrical company Global Creatures, the Southside Flyers in the Women's National Basketball League, and is part-owner of online retailer BikeExchange and My Local Group. In 2011, with his son Andrew, he acquired Mitchelton Wines from Lion Nathan.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Terry Lim</span> Malaysian-born Australian martial artist

Terry Lim is an Australasian Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductee, Martial Arts Australia Martial Artist of the year Masters Awards recipient and renowned martial artist who has had a short documentary made about him titled It's him... Terry Lim by Angus Sampson. He is Founder of the Loong Fu Pai Martial Arts Academy in 1981, with over 350 active students. Loong Fu Pai is one of the most successful martial arts schools in Melbourne founded by one person, grading over 60 black belts. He began running inter-club martial arts tournaments in 1985, and since then these tournaments have run 3 times each year. His Branches total 19 making it one of the largest independent Academies in the one state.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">American Martial Arts Alliance</span>

The American Martial Arts Alliance is a non-profit foundation responsible for holding the annual AMAA Who's Who in the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Jessie Bowen, Executive Director of the Foundation, has published books about the inductees of the award and dedicated two volumes of the publication to Chuck Norris for a lifetime of achievements.
