The Austrian national American football team is the official American football senior national team of Austria and current 2023 European champion. Its players are mostly recruited from the Austrian Football League but a few also play in other European leagues, mostly the German Football League.
The team placed third at the 1995 European Championship of American football (hosted by Austria) and also third place in the 2010 European Championship.
The Team placed second at the 2014 European Championship (hosted in Austria), losing the final in double overtime to Germany in front of 27000 spectators at Vienna's Ernst-Happel-Stadion [1] and placed second again in 2018.
The 2021 European Championship of American football was less successful for Austria as they unexpectedly lost against Italy in the group phase and thus only placed fifth overall. Austria also placed fifth in the first ever European Championship of American football in 1983.
However in the 2023 European Championship of American football, Austria defeated Italy 24-14, and then Finland 28-0 to win their first European championship in their history.

In 2021 the German and Austrian governing bodies AFVD and AFBÖ announced their intention to hold recurring matchups between the two national teams every other year with the first to be held in 2022. [2] [3]

Football is the most popular sport in Austria. The Austrian Football Association, the ÖFB, was founded in 1904 and has been a member of FIFA since then. Despite the sport's popularity, except for a successful streak in the early 1930s, the country's national team has not been successful in tournaments. Austria played their first ever European championship as a qualifier in 2016, but finished last in their group and failed to advance. Appeared in the European championship in 2008, 2016, 2020 and recently qualified for 2024. Their best up to date achievement of this competition was the Round of 16 in the 2020 edition.
The European Cricket Championship is a national team cricket tournament for the European countries associated with the International Cricket Council. In the past, the tournament was played as a league system, where the teams were split into divisions. The competition was designed to encourage and develop the best players in countries where cricket was not a major sport and Europe's only Test cricket playing country at the time, England, did not enter a full-strength side. The games were often played as 50-over one-day cricket matches. The tournament was stopped after 2017, but it returned later as a T10 tournament in 2021

It was founded in 1979 and it is a founding member of the European Federation of American Football, EFAF and International Federation of American Football, IFAF. Since 2000, American football has grown steadily. In 2006 there were 27 clubs playing the sport with over 100 teams and over 1400 players. In 2012, the association's competitions fielded over 150 teams with more than 2200 licensed players.
