Azad Abul Kalam (born 26 October 1966) [1] is a Bangladeshi actor, director, writer and activist. [2] [3] He is one of the founders of Prachyanat and Prachyanat School of Acting and Design. [4] He won Meril Prothom Alo Award for Best Playwright (Critics Choice) in 2012, for his television adaptation of Muhammed Zafar Iqbal’s novel, "Sabuj Velvet". [5]

Career

Kalam was associated with the theater group Aranyak since October 1985. [6] His debut stage acting was the in play Nanoker Pala, directed by Abdullah Hel Mahmud. [7] He founded a theater group Prachyanat in 1997. [8] [9] [4]

Chandragrohon: The Lunar Eclipse is a Bangladeshi film based on a short story written by Indian Bengali author Syed Mustafa Siraj. The film was released 2008 and younger director Murad Parvez first time directed the film. The film features Riaz, Sohana Saba, and Champa in lead roles along with Shahiduzzaman Selim, KS Firoz, Dilara Zaman, Kohinur, Gazi Rakayet, Azom Faruk and Kazi Riton in supporting roles. In 2008, the film won three National Film Awards and including other four awards.

Prachyanat is a theatre group of Bangladesh founded in 1997.

The 14th Meril Prothom Alo Awards ceremony, presented by Prothom Alo took place on 26 April 2012, at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka, Bangladesh as a part of 2011–12 film awards season. The evening started off with Anisul Haque taking the podium, greeting those present. He was followed by the editor of Prothom Alo Matiur Rahman.

Kittonkhola is a 2000 Bangladeshi film directed by Abu Sayeed. The story is based on the stage play of the same name by Selim Al Deen. It stars Raisul Islam Asad, Mamunur Rashid, Pijus Bandapadhyay, Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Naila Azad Nupur, Tamalika Karmakar, Azad Abul Kalam, Kamal Ahmed and Habibur Rahman Habib.
