The 11th Meril Prothom Alo Awards were distributed among TV and film starts and singers 10 April 2009 to honour and inspire the young talents for playing their role in the fields of music, film-making and TV production. The Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre turned into a union of cultural personalities on that evening as the Prothom Alo and Square Toiletries staged the programme to honour the stars. The nominations for the popular awards were open to public voting. [1]

Host and Jury Board

Noted silver screen artiste Ferdous Ahmed and TV actress Aupee Karim conducted the colourful program with their lively and witty anchoring. Award-winning comedian Naveed came up on the dais to present his stand-up comedy to the fun-loving audience who gave him a big round of applause. The member of Jury Board for Dance section were Kamrunnesa Hasan, Lubna Mariam, and Arun Basu; Jury Board for music section were Alam Khan, Sheikh Sadi Khan, Sujay Sham, Shadi Muhammad, and Kanak Chapa; Jury Board for Television section Ramendu Majumdar, Syed Monzurul Islam, Tariq Anam Khan, Shamim Akhter, Zahedur Rahim Anjan, and Sazzad Sharif; and Jury Board for Film section were Hasnat Abdul Hai, Shibli Sadiq, Tareque Masud, Ilias Kanchan, Sabbir Ahmed Chowdhury, A.K.M. Meril Prothom Alo Awards or Prothom Alo Awards is an annual Bangladeshi awards ceremony honouring cinematic achievements in Bangladeshi Film Industry. The awards are divided into two components, Viewers' Choice and Critics' Choice. The awards were first presented in 1998 and since then the awards are given every year at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC).

Arifa Pervin Zaman, known by her stage name Moushumi, is a Bangladeshi film actress and director. She won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress three times for her roles in Meghla Akash (2001), Devdas (2013) and Taarkata (2014). She has acted in over 150 films and made her directorial debut with Kokhono Megh Kokhono Brishti (2003).

Ek Cup Cha (Bengali: এক কাপ চা) is a 2014 Bangladeshi romantic film directed by Noyeem Imtiaz Neyamul. It stars Ferdous Ahmed and Moushumi in the central roles, alongside Omar Sani, Rituparna Sengupta, father and daughter duo Alamgir and Akhi Alamgir, and Humayun Faridi. It is Faridi's final film, he died before it was released.

The 34th National Film Awards, presented by Ministry of Information, Bangladesh to felicitate the best of Bangladeshi Cinema released in the year 2009. The government announced the names of 28 artistes in 26 categories for the National Film Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the country's film industry. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave away the awards to the artistes. From this year, Government decided to give lifetime achievement award and Sultana Zaman was the first recipient of the award.

Every year, a national panel appointed by the government selects the winning entry, and the award ceremony is held in Dhaka. An eleven-member jury board chaired by the additional secretary of the Ministry of Information selected the winners in different categories. A 12-member jury board headed by Sadeq Khan, Chairman of Board of Directors, Press Institute of Bangladesh suggested the name of 17 artistes for the National Film Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the country's film industry.
