Sara Zaker is a Bangladeshi theatre and television actor, director, business entrepreneur and social activist. [1] [2] She was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2017. [3]

Early life and education

Zaker was born to Major Salauddin Mohammad Amin and Alia Amin, a former school teacher. She was nicknamed Chixie. [4] Zaker completed her bachelor's and master's from the University of Dhaka in English literature. She was also trained at the British Theater Institute in 1981.

Career

Actress

Zaker joined Nagorik Natya Sampraday, a theater troupe, just after finishing secondary school in 1972. [5] Her first production with the troupe, "Baki Itihash" premiered in February 1973. She went on to perform in Bidogdho Romonikul, Nishiddho Polli, Shot Manusher Khoje (1976), Dewan Gazi'r Kissa and "Naam-Gotroheen: Manto'r Meyera" (2014). [5]

Zaker directed Ariel Dorfman's Death and the Maiden and Anton Chekhov's The Sea Gull .

Zaker writes a column – Shubondhu Shomipeshu for newspaper Prothom Alo . She is anchoring Ami Ekhon Ki Korbo, a talk show airing on Banglavision channel. She conducts a radio show on Radio Shadhin named Tumi Bolo Amra Shunchhi.

Entrepreneur

Zaker's business career began in 1995 in the field of market research. She is working as the project head of Nayantara Communications since its inception in 2004. [6] Nayantara is the co-producer of Sesame Workshop New York in producing Sisimpur, the Bengali edition of the Sesame Street . She is the managing director of Asiatic 360, [7] director of Asiatic Events Marketing Limited, and the managing director of Ddhoni Chitra Ltd. [8]

Personal life

Zaker was married to Aly Zaker until 2020, his death. [11] Aly was an actor, a writer and a business entrepreneur. [12] Zaker has two children, Iresh Zaker and Sriya Sharbojaya. [13] Sriya is associate executive director of Asiatic EXP and Iresh is executive director of Asiatic MCL and an actor. [14] She has a personal blog which is sarazaker.me

Ekushey Padak Second highest civilian award in Bangladesh

Ekushey Padak is the second highest civilian award in Bangladesh, introduced in memory of the martyrs of the Bengali Language Movement of 1952. The award is given to recognize contributions in a number of fields, including culture, education, and economics. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs administers the award.

Abu Taher Mohammad Shamsuzzaman is a Bangladeshi film and television actor, director and screen-playwright. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2015 by the Government of Bangladesh. He won Bangladesh National Film Awards five times for his roles in Dayee Ke? (1987), Madam Fuli (1999), Churiwala (2001), Mon Bosena Porar Table E (2009) and Chorabali (2012).

Iresh Zaker

Iresh Zaker is a Bangladeshi advertising executive, television and film actor and a musician. He is the managing director of Asiatic 360, a marketing and advertising company, owned and operated by his parents, actors Aly Zaker and Sara Zaker. Most of Iresh Zaker's work as an actor has been in television, but he has also played negative roles in several films. He won the National Film Awards Best Performance in a Negative Role in 2015 for his portrayal of antagonist Danny in Chuye Dile Mon.

Laila Hasan is Bangladeshi choreographer, dancer and actress. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2010 for contribution to art by the Government of Bangladesh.

Rawshan Jamil

Rawshan Jamil was a Bangladeshi actress and dancer. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in the dance category in 1995 and Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film Noyonmoni (1976).

PratibhaMutsuddi is a Bangladeshi academic and language activist. She participated in the Bengali Language Movement in 1952. Jamaluddin Hossain is a Bangladeshi actor, director and theater activist. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2013.

Sheikh Faisal Abdur Rouf Mohammad Ziauddin Haider was a Bangladeshi writer, poet, playwright, translator and professor. He was the founder president of Nagorik Natya Sampradaya and founder of the Bangladesh Institute of Theater Arts. He wrote 7 poems, 4 plays and translated several plays. He was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2001 and Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1977.

Nagorik Natya Sampradaya is a Bangladeshi theatre company. Established in 1968, it was the first theatre group in Dhaka and started performing plays on stage in 1972. The chairperson of the group is the actor and director Aly Zaker and his wife, actress Sara Zaker, is the vice-chairperson. As of December 2018, Nagorik had performed 46 different productions.

Nodir Naam Modhumoti is a 1996 Bangladeshi Bengali language film directed by Tanvir Mokammel. It won 20th Bangladesh National Film Awards for the Best Story, Best Dialogue and Best Male Playback Singer.
