Aneek, established on 09 October 1999, is a group theatre based in Kolkata, India. Aneek celebrates its Silver Jubilee this year.
Aneek organises theatre festivals. From 1999 it has organised the international theatre festival Ganga Jamuna Natya Utsab which involves theatre groups from West Bengal, rest of India and other countries like Japan, Nepal, America and Germany. It also has organised an Inter-school and Inter-College drama Competition since 2003. From 2010, Aneek has organised the Bengali Short Drama Festival. A National Symposium, The Subaltern in Indian Theatre was organised on 13 and 14 November 2010 in collaboration with Department of English, University of Calcutta. In 2011, a festival was organised to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. Twenty five groups from all the 19 districts of West Bengal participated.
In 2012, a 2-day Symposium titled Rural problems & Indian Theatre was organised. The 14th Ganga Jamuna Natya utsab was held from 24 December 2011 to 4 January 2012 in Kolkata & Madhyamgram. Thirty two teams participated in the festival. The 15th Ganga Jamuna Natya Utsab was held from 23 December 2012 to 4 January 2013 in Kolkata & Madhyamgram. A National Symposium, 'Society, Nation & Rabindranath' was organised by Aneek aided by Ministry Of Culture, Government of India on 23 and 24 June 2012 at Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad Auditorium, Kolkata. Eminent speakers from all over the country gave deliberations.
In September 2013, a six-day theatre festival "Ganga-Jamuna Natyautsab" was arranged by Ganga-Jamuna Natyautsab Parishad (Bangladesh Committee), in association with Aneek. The festival showcased a total of 17 plays from Bangladesh and one from India. Aneek staged "Prateek," at 7pm at the National Theatre Hall of BSA on the closing day. Leading troupes of Bangladesh like Aranyak, Dhaka Theatre, Loko Natya Dal, Prachyanat, Nagarik Natyangan and others staged their acclaimed plays in the event. [1]
The 16th Ganga Jamuna Natya Utsab will be held from 22 December 2013 to 3 January 2014.
Visva-Bharati is a central research university and an Institution of National Importance located in Shantiniketan, West Bengal, India. It was founded by Rabindranath Tagore who called it Visva-Bharati, which means the communion of the world with India. Until independence it was a college. Soon after independence, the institution was given the status of a central university in 1951 by an act of the Parliament.
Paschimbanga Bangla Akademi is the official regulatory body of the Bengali language in West Bengal, India. Modeled after Bangla Academy of Bangladesh and France’s Académie française, the Bangla Akademi was founded on May 20, 1986 in Kolkata to act as the official authority of the language and is entrusted with the responsibility of reforming Bengali spelling and grammar, compiling dictionaries, encyclopedias and terminologies and promoting Bengali language and culture in West Bengal. Though the Akademi has no enforcement power over their rules and regulations, yet they are widely accepted by the Governments of West Bengal and Tripura as well as a considerable number of private publishing houses and institutions like the Oxford University Press and the Ramakrishna Mission.
Bengali theatre primarily refers to theatre performed in the Bengali language. Bengali theatre is produced mainly in West Bengal, and in Bangladesh. The term may also refer to some Hindi theatres which are accepted by the Bengali people.
Theatre Formation Paribartak is a group theatre situated in the Howrah district of West Bengal, India. It produces short theatres, one-act plays and full-length plays in Bengali, English and Hindi. Its performances are held in prosceniums, intimate spaces, streets and in virtual platforms. It also organizes workshops for its own actors. Before May 2005, it was a unit of another organization that now goes under the name of Changers' Foundation Paribartak.

Saraswati River refers to a river, that was a distributary of the Bhagirathi and is now no more there but was active till around the 16th century AD. The course and condition of the Saraswati has played an important role in the development and decline of river port towns in Bengal. Initially, the major port town was Tamralipta, after the decline of which Saptagram rose and declined, and finally Kolkata came up.
Bharat Rang Mahotsav (BRM) or the National Theatre Festival, started in 1999, is the annual theatre festival organised by National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi. The festival was started to showcase works of Indian theatre practitioners, and it has grown over the years to attract international performers as well. National School of Drama is India's premier theatre training institute funded by Govt. of India.

Paschim Banga Natya Akademi is a learned society for drama and theatre in West Bengal, India. Established on 26 September 1987, it is a wing of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, Government of West Bengal. The aim of this society is to develop skill and expertise, to document and archive the history of theater of Bengal, to disseminate information, to understand theories, to promote and project significant creativity in the field.
Tripti Mitra was a popular Indian actress of Bengali theatre and films, and wife of Sombhu Mitra, noted theatre director, with whom she co-founded pioneering theatre group Bohurupee in 1948. She has acted in films like Jukti Takko Aar Gappo and Dharti Ke Lal.
Sanglap Kolkata or Sanglap theatre group is a Kolkata based Bengali theatre group. The theatre group was founded in 1979. The group's first production was "Ispat" based on Nikolai Ostrovsky's novel "How the Steel Was Tempered".

Bahurupi Natya Sangstha is a Bengali theatre group of Mymensingh, Bangladesh. The group was founded on 1 June 1975. As of 2015, the group's managing director is Helalul Islam, and its secretary is Shahadat Hossain Khan Hilu.
Torit Mitra is a noted Indian Bengali playwright and theatre director. He co-founded avante garde theatre company, Sansaptak in 1992. He has written 35 plays, all staged by Sansaptak. After completing his graduation acquiring first class first position in Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1979 from Delhi College of Arts and receiving UNICEF Fellowship for Fine Arts, Torit Mitra started practicing painting professionally and became famous for his black and white drawings with political overtones, receiving many national and international awards, recognitions and found their way to national and international collections and archives. He was also aligned with the literary movement of the time.
