Riddhi Sen is an Indian film actor who predominantly works in Bengali films along with a few Hindi films. [1] He is the youngest actor in India to receive the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film Nagarkirtan .

He is a regular actor of the theatre group Swapnasandhani [2] and is an alumnus of South Point school, Kolkata. In 2010, he received a special talent award from his school for his achievements in the field of theatre. [3] He is also known for his work in several other film productions. [4] In 2019, Film Companion ranked Sen's performance in Nagarkirtan among 100 Greatest Performances of the decade. [5]

Early life

Born in Kolkata, Riddhi Sen is the son of Bengali stage and film actor Kaushik Sen and dancer Reshmi Sen, and grandson of actress Chitra Sen and actor Shyamal Sen. [6] [7] Sen has acted on stage from an early age, with his grandmother saying "From a very tender age he is performing at ‘Prachya’, I remember carrying him through the crowds at the age of 3." [7]

Sen's first directorial debut is a short film based on the author Nabarun Bhattacharya's short story, Coldfire, a dystopian dark comedy, which released in 2021. [29]

Lalmohan Ganguly, alias Jatayu is a fictional character in the Feluda stories written by Satyajit Ray. He writes pulp crime thrillers, but is quite weak and nervous in real life. He is fairly wealthy due to the immense sales of his books. He writes at a frequency of two books a year. His crime fiction stories have interesting and catchy names, often characterised by alliterations like 'Sahara-ey Shiharan', 'Honduras-e Hahakar', 'Borneo-r Bibhishika', 'Durdharsh Dushman', 'Vancouver-er Vampire', 'Himalaye Hritkampo', 'Atlantic-er Atanka', 'Anobik Danob', 'Naroker Naam Karakoram', 'Bidghute Bodmash', 'Arokto Arab' etc. The names of several Feluda stories also exhibit this feature, for example Joto Kando Kathmandute, Gangtokey Gondogol, Royal Bengal Rahasya, Robertsoner Ruby, Gosainpur Sargaram, Bombaiyer Bombete, Gorosthane Sabdhan, Kailashey Kelenkari, Bhuswargo Bhayankar, etc. The detective of Jatayu's novel, Prakhar Rudra, is a character with incredible intellect and power. Lalmohan's grandfather gave his name "Sarbogya Gongopadhyay" but Lalmohan does not use that name.

Koushik Sen is an Indian actor in film, television and theatre, based in Kolkata. He is the director of the theatre group Swapnasandhani. He won a Bengal Film Journalists' Association Award for best supporting actor for his performance in the Mrinal Sen directed film Aamar Bhuvan. He was awarded Girish Purashkar 2023 by the Cultural Department of the Government of West Bengal for his extraordinary contributions to theatre. This year he was also awarded Telly Academy Best Actor Award for Godhuli Alap series.

<i>Badshahi Angti</i> (film) 2014 film by Sandip Ray

Badshahi Angti is a 2014 Indian Bengali-language thriller film directed by Sandip Ray, based on the novel of the same name by Satyajit Ray, starring Abir Chatterjee and Sourav Das as Feluda and Topse respectively. The film was released on 19 December 2014. It is the first film which stars Abir Chatterjee as Feluda. This was going to be a reboot to previous Feluda film series after Royal Bengal Rahashya. But in 2016 Sandip Ray cancelled the reboot series because Abir Chatterjee started a new version of film series based on Byomkesh Bakshi franchise under Shree Venkatesh Films and Surinder Films. The other reason was the new Feluda movie Sandip Ray intended to make under a Mumbai-based production house Eros International, but Abir has a strict contract with Shree Venkatesh Films and Surinder Films.

<i>Double Feluda</i> 2016 film directed by Sandip Ray

Double Feluda is a 2016 Bengali language crime thriller detective film, based on the Bengali sleuth Feluda, created by the acclaimed and renowned Oscar-winning director Satyajit Ray. It is the 19th film in the Feluda series. Directed by his son Sandip Ray, the film marks the comeback of both Sabyasachi Chakraborty and Saheb Bhattacharya, with the former returning to the eponymous role of Feluda and the latter playing his sidekick. This is a sequel of Royal Bengal Rahashya (2011). The film released on 16 December 2016 to mark the 50th anniversary of the iconic creation. The film is based on two Feluda stories - Samaddarer Chabi and Golokdham Rahasya.

<i>Nagarkirtan</i> 2017 Indian film

Nagarkirtan is a 2017 Indian Bengali-language film written and directed by Kaushik Ganguly and produced by Sani Ghose Ray. The film stars Riddhi Sen as Parimal, a trans woman from rural Bengal, and Ritwick Chakraborty as Madhu, a flute player from the Kirtaniya town of Nabadwip.

Bismillah is a 2022 Indian Bengali-language musical drama film directed by Indraadip Dasgupta. The film is produced by Samiran Das under the banner of Kaleidoscope. The film stars Riddhi Sen in the title role. The film depicts the traditions of a musical family and journey of young musician.

<i>Hatyapuri</i> (film) 2022 film by Sandip Ray

Hatyapuri is a 2022 Indian Bengali-language thriller film directed by Sandip Ray based on the novel of the same name by Satyajit Ray, which was originally published in 1979. The film stars Indraneil Sengupta as Feluda. The film worked as a second reboot after the first reboot film Badshahi Angti (2014) and also a loose sequel of Badshahi Angti. The movie was released theatrically on December 23, 2022. It was subsequently released online on June 2, 2023, on ZEE5.
