History

After the establishment of Azad Government of the State of Jammu & Kashmir since December 28, 1950, first Rules of Business has been implemented. AJKPSC was launched according of these rules. The first Chairman was Mr. Ghulam Muhayyudin (CSP) Chief Advisor to Ministry of Kashmir Affairs. In March 1967 Azad Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission (AJKPSC office shifted in Muzaffarabad city.

Functioning

At present AJKPSC is functioning under Act 1986,

Most Popular civil posts are Lecturer, Subject Specialists, Medical Officers, Tehsildar/Naib Tehsildar, Assistant Sub Inspectors & Civil Judges.

Composition Of The Commission

The commission consists of a chairman and the members. The chairman is appointed by the President of Azad Kashmir, in his discretion. The members are appointed by the president on the advice of the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir . The commission is assisted by the secretary, who provides a link among the commission, its secretariat and the government agencies.

YFK-International Kashmir Lobby Group is a non-governmental organization working on strategies for peaceful conflict resolution and protection of human rights in the disputed region of Jammu & Kashmir. Headquartered in Islamabad, Pakistan, YFK is a registered NGO run by rotating teams of specialists in human rights, diplomacy, and international law, drawn from university scholars and students, journalists, members of the academia, young political activists, and human rights defenders from mainly Pakistan and AJK. This includes young Kashmiris from refugee families that sought exile in Pakistan after escaping violence in Kashmir post-1989. The organization advocates for the right to self-determination for Kashmiris through a plebiscite to decide whether Kashmir joins India or Pakistan, as provisioned under United Nations Security Council Resolution 47. The group apparently scaled back its operations since 2022 due to a fall in donations from inside Pakistan and the Kashmiri diaspora internationally, as Pakistan's economic crunch impacted the work of civil society organizations. Also, the political turmoil in Pakistan in 2022-2023 eclipsed all other issues.

Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan Niazi is a Kashmiri politician from Azad Jammu and Kashmir who was the 13th Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir from August 2021 to April 2022. He has been a member of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative assembly since August 2021. He has been the president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter since April 2023.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Interim Constitution of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (1974)</span> Act to provide for a provisional constitution to Azad Kashmir

The Interim Constitution of Azad Jammu and Kashmir provides for an apparently transitory autonomous parliamentary framework of self-governance and power sharing for the region of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, defined by the act as the "territories of the State of Jammu and Kashmir which have been liberated by the people of that State and for the time being under the administration of Government and such other territories as may hereafter come under its administration", however it does not pertain to areas such as Gilgit, Hunza and Baltistan. The act succeeded and re-enacted the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Government Act, 1970 with modifications. It was promulgated under the Prime Minister of Pakistan Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. The constitution has been amended 14 times. It is based on the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan.

The Azad Jammu & Kashmir Election Commission is an independent, autonomous, permanent and constitutionally established body responsible for organizing and conducting elections to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kashmir council, local governments, and the office of President of Azad Kashmir, as well as the delimitation of constituencies and preparation of electoral rolls. In accordance with the principles set down in the Interim Constitution of AJK, the commission makes the necessary measures to guarantee that the election is conducted honestly, justly, fairly, and in compliance with the law, and that corrupt practices are prevented.

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Council or AJK Council is a supreme legislative and executive body of the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir which works under the federal Government of Pakistan. This governing body has more constitutional, executive, financial, legal, and administrative powers than the Legislative Assembly of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
