B.D. College, Patna, also known as Bhuwaneshwari Dayal College, established in 1970, is a Professional degree college in Patna, Bihar. It is a constituent unit of Patliputra University. [1] College offers undergraduate courses in Science, Commerce and Arts. This institution had a modest start on 10 March 1970, and it remained under Magadh University, Bodh Gaya in (1970-2018) presently it is under Patliputra University, Patna since 18 March 2018. It is managed as per provisions of the University Acts and Statutes prescribed by the UGC and promulgated by the State Government of Bihar . The college receives grants from the state government as well as the University Grants Commission for the payment of salary and infrastructural development. For fostering civic and social values among the students interactive sessions, outreaching activities and field study in surrounding areas are organised by the departments.
The college has 22 Undergraduate departments and 23 Postgraduate departments. The college has been selected for Chancellor Award 2023 in Best College Campus and Best Faculty In Bihar
The B. A. (Honours) (Commerce Group) Degree was introduced in 1943. M. A. (Economics) course followed by the introduction of Master's degree in Commerce were introduced in 1948. In 1949, when B.Com. (Honours) was instituted in the University of Patliputra, the College also started offering the same.
In 1951, on the occasion of its Silver Jubilee, the Commercial College decided to specialize in the field of commerce and economics and hence rechristened itself as B.D Collage in recognition of the contribution made by its founder Sir Shri Bhuvneshwari Dayal. Three years later, in 1994, the College shifted completely to its present day campus in the Campus, University of Patliputra Patna Campus kankarbagh.
In 1987 when the College converted to a coeducational institution.
Finally, the B. A. (Honours) Economics course was introduced later in 1970. The inclusion of B. A. (Hons.) Economics rounded the academic number of the courses offered by at undergraduate level.
The 1978s was a period of infrastructural expansion for of Commerce. In 1963-64, the Students’ Centre (now renamed as B D Collage Auditorium[5]), Tutorial Blocks and the Girls’ Hostel Blocks were constructed. In the same year, the Swimming pool and the gymnasium were built under a Shramdaan Movement by the students. This made of Commerce the first college in the University of Patliputra to have a swimming pool. In 1977, the iconic bust of was installed in the front lawns facing the College.
In the year 1968, B.D Collage launched "Business Analyst", its research journal dedicated to active dissemination and promotion of original and contemporary research in the area of business, management, economics, finance and governance.
The Girls Hostel was constructed in 1985, making B.D Collage of Commerce the first amongst all co-educational colleges of the University of Patliputra to have its own residential unit for its female students.
The Placement Cell B.D Collage , Patna was established in 1996. In 1999, B.D Collage introduced its Post Graduate Diploma in Global Business Operations (PGDGBO), a unique[ citation needed ] self-financed PG Diploma course. The launch of PGDGBO rounded the total number of academic courses offered at Patna Mithapur Campus.
