Early life

B. Gopalakrishnan is the fifth son of M. B. Menon and S. Sarojini Amma and was born at Changanassery in Kottayam District. He moved to Thrissur along with his parents and siblings when he was a child. He was a small-time trader who sold tea leaves door-to-door and distributed newspapers. He graduated from Sree Kerala Varma College with a BA in History in 1985 and worked as a medical representative from 1985 to 1990. [3] He studied LLB from Indian Law Society,Pune and has been a lawyer since 1990 in Thrissur, specializing in Criminal law. He is an Accredited Lawyer nominated by Supreme Court of India out of a select group of 30 Senior Counsels to represent and appear in the newly established Mediation center.[ citation needed ]

Political life

B. Gopalakrishnan joined RSS at the age of 11 and post-Emergency took the responsibility of strengthening ABVP in Thrissur district. The Sree Krishna College strike of the time was resolved under his leadership. As Yuvamorcha State Vice President, he led the protest against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha in Guruvayur. He represented South India in Asian Youth Council in China and presented papers on Youth empowerment. As Cochin Port Trust Director Board Member, he played major role into bringing into realization International Container Transshipment Terminal, Kochi which got realized during NDA rule. He initiated the demand for erecting Sakthan Thanpuran's Statue in Thrissur and played pivotal role in erecting the Statue at Sakthan Nagar Thrissur. As BJP Dist. President, his vision and electoral strategies combined with strong leadership increased the total tally of BJP local body representation from 31 to 53. [4]

He authored various socio-political articles in prominent publishing including Mathrubhumi, Manorama, Kesari Weekly and is the editorial team member of BJP magazine Chithi. He authored the Book ‘Malappuram Yesterday,Today and Tomorrow’ released by L.K. Advani bringing into light the historical importance and future prospect of what Malappuram is today.[ citation needed ]
