Barisal, officially known as Barishal,(Bengali: বরিশাল, pronounced [boɾiʃal]), is a major city that lies on the banks of the Kirtankhola river in south-central Bangladesh. It is the largest city and the administrative headquarter of both Barishal District and Barisal Division. It is one of the oldest municipalities and river ports of the country. Barisal municipality was established in the year 1876 during the British Raj and upgraded to City Corporation on 25 July 2002. The city consists of 30 wards and 50 mahallas with a population of 328,278 according to the 2011 national census and with the voter of about 2.48 lakhs according to the 2018 voter list of city election. The area of the city is 58 km2.

The Barisal Division cricket team or Barisal Blazers is a Bangladeshi first-class team representing the Barisal Division, one of the seven administrative regions in Bangladesh. The team competes in the National Cricket League and was formerly a participant in the now-defunct National Cricket League One-Day. Barisal Zilla School Public school in Bangladesh

Barisal Zilla School is a public educational institution located in Barisal, Bangladesh. It's a boys school, the first high school in Barisal Division, and the second oldest school in Bangladesh. The school has a long history. It was founded by an Englishman, N. W. Garret, on 23 December 1829 with only 8 students. Now it has more than two thousand students. The school offers grades from class III to class X. It has two shifts, morning and day. The morning shift starts at 7:00 am and the day shift starts at 12:00 pm.

Operation Barisal

Operation Barisal was a code-name of naval operation conducted by Pakistan Navy intended to take control of the city of Barisal, East Pakistan from the Mukti Bahini and the dissidents of the Pakistan Defence Forces. It was the part of Operation Searchlight.

Barishal City Corporation is a self-governed municipal administration in Bangladesh that administers and oversees development and maintenance works in the city of Barisal. The corporation covers an area of over 58 square kilometers in the Barisal district where over five million people live as permanent residents. The body was known as Barisal Municipality previously, until it obtained the City Corporation status by a ministry of local government declaration on 25 July 2002.

Nasrat Gazi Mosque is an ancient mosque and archaeological site located in Barisal District of Bangladesh. The mosque was built during the reign of Nasiruddin Nasrat Shah. It is located in the village of Sialguni in Bakerganj Upazila.
