Baiser (French for kiss) was a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in 1991 by vocalist Yukari. [1] They played concerts in the Tokyo area before debuting on an independent label in 1994. [1]

History

The original line-up for Baiser featured Hiderou and Akane on guitar, and Haiji on bass. Gaz (former drummer of Malice Mizer) was their support drummer until 1993, when he was replaced by Akihiro. [2] In 1993 they released their first demo tape "Daraku", distributing only 100 copies. Their second demo tape, "Fleurs des Fleurs", was released a year later. In 1994 they released their first album, Seppun Kuchizuke. [2]

In 1995, Akihiro was replaced by Toshimi. Following this change, Baiser recorded their second album, Ash. It reached number two on Oricon's independent album chart. [2] They also released the video Pictures, which they did everything by themselves, such as; filming, scripting, editing and mixing. That year, a few of their songs appeared on compilation albums such as Sacred Seed, Turn Over Eagle Vision and Turn Over Crow Vision.

In 1996, Toshimi left the band and the other members decided to split up. However, Yukari began to recruiting members for a new Baiser. The band reformed in September 1997 with Shaisuke on bass (former Penicillin), Katsura on drums (former Shazna), and Mizuki and Rei on guitar (both former Iris). [2] [3]

In 1998 Baiser released two singles, three mini-albums, a full album, and three videos. In May 1999 Baiser signed with the major label Fortune Records Japan (a division of Sony Music Entertainment [4] and released their debut single "Prism". "Prism" was used as the opening theme for the anime Gokudo . [5] and was produced by Hakuei of Penicillin.

They released two more maxi-singles, "Angel" and "Doku", and their first and final major album, Hana. [6] That same year they also had their first major tour, Prismatic Colors.

In May 2000 they released their last maxi-single, "Pegasus". [2] Following a period of no releases, Baiser announced that they were going to disband on January 5, 2001.

After Baiser

Yukari and Mizuki formed the band Endorphine with two other members, but they disbanded in 2003 after only three releases. [1] [7]

Rei, Shaisuke and Katsura stayed together as well, forming the band Swallowtail. [1] Rei, who adopted the name Sin, became the vocalist, and former Baiser member Hiderou joined as their support guitarist. The group disbanded shortly thereafter. Katsura started the band Vinett in 2002, which disbanded in 2005. [8]

Shaisuke died on July 16, 2001. [9] The cause of death was not released to the public. He had been checked into the hospital some 3 or 4 days prior.

Yukari has remained active in the music scene and produced some of Rentrer en Soi's releases. [10] Katsura had supported Rentrer en Soi as a session drummer in their beginnings too, before Mika joined. He appears on Rentrer en Soi's few first singles.

Shazna is a Japanese visual kei rock band originally active from 1993 to 2000. Originally having a strong gothic rock influence, the band's sound greatly shifted to a more new wave direction by 1996. At their peak, they were considered one of "the big four of visual kei" alongside La'cryma Christi, Fanatic Crisis and Malice Mizer. Their 1998 major label debut album Gold Sun and Silver Moon reached the number two position on the Oricon chart, sold over a million copies and was named "Rock Album of the Year" at the Japan Gold Disc Awards. In 2006, Shazna reunited, though after releasing an album and a single they disbanded once again in 2009. In 2017, Shazna officially reunited again for their 20th anniversary.

DespairsRay Japanese band

D'espairsRay was a Japanese visual kei rock band active from 1999 to 2011. The lineup of Hizumi on vocals, Karyu on guitar, Zero on bass and Tsukasa on drums remained the same, with the group having released four full-length records, three EPs and thirteen singles. Outside Japan, D'espairsRay have toured Europe and North America and had domestic releases in those territories.

Pierrot was a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in 1994 in Nagano. After changing their name from Dizy-Lizy to Pierrot and several member changes, the final lineup was completed in 1995 with Kirito on vocals, Jun and Aiji on guitar, Kohta on bass and Takeo on drums. After roughly ten years together, Pierrot disbanded in 2006. Their final single was named "Hello", an apt title for a band who started their major career with an album called Finale.

Speed were a Japanese female vocal/dance group comprising Hiroko Shimabukuro, Eriko Imai, Takako Uehara and Hitoe Arakaki. All four members are former students of the Okinawa Actors School which also trained popular artists Namie Amuro and MAX.

To Be (song) 1999 single by Ayumi Hamasaki

"To Be" is a song by Japanese recording artist Ayumi Hamasaki. It served as the third single from Hamasaki's second studio album Loveppears (1999). The track was released by Avex Trax in Japan and Taiwan on May 12, 1999, and through Avex Entertainment Inc. worldwide in September 2008. It was Hamasaki's final single to be distributed as a Mini-CD, a format that debuted at the start of her career in April 1998. "To Be" was written by Hamasaki herself, while production was handled by long-time collaborator Max Matsuura. Musically, it is a J-Pop that was written in third person perspective, much like the content from the parent album.

Zigzo is a Japanese rock supergroup that originally started activities in 1999 and disbanded in 2002. Each member came from a prominent band and they became very popular in the indies scene. They disbanded after their last show on March 16, 2002, reportedly due to musical differences.

Sphire-Croid is the first studio album of the Japanese rock band Rentrer en Soi. It was released on 26 January 2005 in Japan and produced by Yukari, the vocalist of Baiser. On their debut full-length album, Rentrer en Soi take a much more mellow approach to their music compared to the band's later adapted, heavy metal influenced style.

Satsuki (砂月) is a Japanese musician and former vocalist of visual kei rock band Rentrer en Soi. Satsuki was a member of Rentrer en Soi from its creation in 2001 until it disbanded in 2008. In 2009, he launched a solo career. He counts Dir En Grey, Nirvana, and U2 among his musical influences.

Angelina (PSY song) 1991 single by PSY

"Angelina" is a 1990 song recorded by French band PSY. Written by members Pierre Perez-Vergara, Stéphane Planchon and Yassine Dahbi, this pop song was released in 1991 as the first single from the band's album Être ange, mon ange, produced by Robert Levy-Provençal and which provided the singles "Mahler de malheur" and "Animal moi" too. Directed by Frédéric Planchon, the music video for "Angelina" shows a model named Maïwenn, also known as Polisse. In France, it was a top ten hit and became PSY's only charting single in the country, making the band a one-hit wonder.
