A military band is a group of personnel that performs musical duties for military functions, usually for the armed forces. A typical military band consists mostly of wind and percussion instruments. The conductor of a band commonly bears the title of bandmaster or music director. Ottoman military bands are thought to be the oldest variety of military marching bands in the world, dating from the 13th century.

The Royal Military College of Canada Bands is the official group of bands of the Royal Military College of Canada. The group is composed of four sections: the brass and reed, the pipes and drums, highland dancers, and choristers. Total band membership consists of 105 Officer Cadets from the college. Officer Cadets in the band practice three days a week in the morning on top of attending their individual full-time university programs.

Military bands form a part of the Music Branch of the CAF, composed of six full-time professional Regular Force bands, 15 Regular Force voluntary bands, and 53 part-time reserve force bands. Bands of the Music Branch are often badged with the unit or Canadian Forces base insignia that they support.
The Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces is one of six full-time Regular Force military bands in the Canadian Armed Forces. It is also the seniormost military band in the CAF. The King's Own Calgary Regiment Band is the regimental band of The King's Own Calgary Regiment based at Mewata Armouries in Calgary, Alberta. It is currently one of two Primary Reserve bands in 41 Canadian Brigade Group and is the de facto military bands for the southern Alberta area. The regimental band is an composed of volunteer members, all of whom have completed the Basic Military Qualification (BMQ) and many of whom have studied and trained at the Canadian Forces School of Music at CFB Borden.

Operationally, it's part of the 41 Canadian Brigade Group. The band's force strength is currently at 22 personnel.
The 36 Canadian Brigade Group (NS) band, a voluntary musical unit that serves as the de facto Canadian Army brass and reed military band in Nova Scotia. Being part of the 36 Canadian Brigade Group, it is the only one that is operationally attached to a brigade. It therefore gives musical accompaniment to all units in its jurisdiction, including regiments with regimental bands such as the 1st Battalion, Royal Newfoundland Regiment.
The British Columbia Hussars was a light cavalry regiment of the Non-Permanent Active Militia of the Canadian Militia. In 1939, the regiment was converted from light armour to artillery.
