Bart Plantenga is a writer who has been called "the world's expert on yodeling [1] [2] [3] and the "Alan Lomax of not just the yodeling world but yodeling worldwide." [4] He is also a pirate radio station disc jockey known for his radio show on Radio Patapoe, "Wreck this Mess." [5]

Career

Plantenga has written several books about yodeling including Yodel-Ay-Ee-Oooo: The Secret History of Yodeling Around the World, released in 2004 by Routledge, [6] [7] [8] [9] and Yodel in Hi-Fi: From Kitsch Folk to Contemporary Electronica, released in 2013 by the University of Wisconsin Press. [4] [10]

He has also released the album The Rough Guide to Yodel [11] and wrote the entry on yodeling in Music Around the World: A Global Encyclopedia. [12] [13]

Along with Ron Kolm, Mike Golden, and Peter Lamborn Wilson, he was a co-founder of the Unbearables, [14] a literary group in New York City, which held an annual event reading erotic poetry aloud on the Brooklyn Bridge, and stormed the offices of The New Yorker "to protest the quality of the magazine’s poetry."

Plantenga maintains two YouTube channels, Yodel in HiFi Top 50+, and a channel for his radio show, Wreck Dub Wire Yodel, [15] and has written for The Brooklyn Rail. [16]

His novel Beer Mystic has been called an "experiential experiment" and a "'global pub crawl' across various Web sites" [17] and is excerpted in the critical anthology Up Is Up, But So Is Down New York's Downtown Literary Scene, 1974-1992. [18]

Personal life

Plantenga is a native of Amsterdam. [13] He spent a year at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, as a student in the early 1970s before transferring to the University of Michigan for his degree. [13] He lives in Amsterdam with his partner Nina Ascoly and their daughter Paloma. [16]

Mal Webb is a singer, beatboxer and multi-instrumentalist who has performed in various groups in the Australian music scene. He records his own original songs as well as providing material for other artists. He is a founding member of The Oxo Cubans, Sock, Totally Gourdgeous, and Formidable Vegetable, as well as performing solo and as a duo with Kylie Morrigan. As a composer, he provided the soundtracks for The Adventures of Lano and Woodley, Woodley and Wishworks' puppet show, Whispering Smith. In 2018, he premiered his work, "Notey and Noisy, a Sound Science Mathemusical", which was released on July 5th, 2024 on CD and Streaming Services, and as a Digital Download on Bandcamp. Kerry McGregor was a Scottish singer-songwriter and actress from West Lothian. McGregor appeared on the third UK series of The X Factor, where she was mentored by Sharon Osbourne. McGregor died on 4 January 2012 of complications from bladder cancer, a disease she had had for years.

Kerry Christensen is an American yodeler. He yodels in both western and Alpine styles. He also plays the accordion, the zither, and the alphorn and is very good at imitating chickens.

The blue yodel songs are a series of thirteen songs written and recorded by Jimmie Rodgers during the period from 1927 to his death in May 1933. The songs were based on the 12-bar blues format and featured Rodgers’ trademark yodel refrains. The lyrics often had a risqué quality with "a macho, slightly dangerous undertone." The original 78 issue of "Blue Yodel No. 1 " sold more than a half million copies, a phenomenal number at the time. The term "blue yodel" is also sometimes used to differentiate the earlier Austrian yodeling from the American form of yodeling introduced by Rodgers.

Stanley Beresford "Donn" Reynolds was a Canadian country music singer and yodeler most widely known for his Bavarian style of yodeling. Often referred to as Canada's "king of the yodelers", Reynolds established two yodeling world records. He recorded 38 singles and six albums throughout a performing career spanning over 40 years.

<i>Godfather</i> (soundtrack) 2012 soundtrack album by A. R. Rahman

Godfather is the soundtrack album of the 2012 Kannada drama film of the same name, directed by cinematographer-turned-director Sethu Sriram, starring Upendra in a triple role. The soundtrack album consists of eight songs composed by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, and lyrics penned by K. Kalyan, Devappa Hassan and Kaviraj. The background score of the film is composed by Rajesh Ramanath. Rahman retained most of the tracks from the original version, which also featured musical score by him. The audio was launched in a grand manner at Chancery Hotel, Bengaluru on 13 June 2012. The album received positive critical reception upon release.

Christine Lauterburg is a Swiss singer and yodeler. Lauterburg often remakes Swiss folk songs but also composes her own music. In contrast to most contemporary Swiss musicians, who use the Anglo-Saxon folk songs as a foundation, Lauterburg develops her music from local roots. Lauterburg performs solo and in various groups. The style of her music is often referred to as Swiss folk music, folk, pop, techno, or world music.

Mike Johnson is an American country music yodeler, singer, and songwriter living in Arlington, Virginia. Also known as Country Music's No.1 Black Yodeler, and Black Yodel No.1.

The Kilima Hawaiians were a well known and popular Dutch Hawaiian music group who had a hit with "Er hangt een Paardenhoofdstel aan de Muur" / "Es hängt ein Pferdehalfter an der Wand". Some of the steel guitarists that played with them were Rudi Wairata, Coy Pereira and Frans Doolaard.

Mhm a-ha oh yeah da-da is the only studio album of the group Cargo Orkestar whose leader was Darko Rundek. On this album, the songs were sung in Croatian, English, German and French. The album was released in June 2006 by Menart.
