Batman Petrolspor is a professional Turkish football club located in the city of Batman. Formed in 1960, the club colours are red, white, and black and they play their home matches at Batman Stadium. The club is named Petrolspor because Batman is the largest producer of oil in Turkey. [1]

History

Batman Petrolspor was founded in 1960 with several branches including athletics, basketball, football, swimming, volleyball, and wrestling. The club played amateur football in the Diyarbakır regional leagues until 1986 when they won promotion to the 3.Lig. The club won promotion to the 2.Lig soon after and competed in the division for several years. [2]

They have never won promotion to the Süper Lig, falling in the 2.Lig promotion semi-finals to Göztepe. The club were relegated to the 3.Lig at the conclusion of the 2005–06 season, and have competed in the division since then. Their greatest success in the Turkish Cup came in 1977 when they reached the fourth round, losing to Kocaelispor 3–0 on aggregate. [3] At the time, Batman Petrolspor were still competing in the Turkish Regional Amateur League. [2]

Stadium

The club plays its home matches at Batman Stadium. The stadium seats 15,000 spectators. The club previously played its home matches at the 16 Mayıs Stadium.

Noted players

Batman Petrolspor have produced Orhan Kapucu, a Batman native, and Ozan İpek, both capped by the Turkey national football team. Kapucu went on to play for several clubs, most notably Fenerbahçe. [4] He earned his solitary cap in a Euro 1988 qualifying match against Northern Ireland on 12 November 1986. [5] İpek currently plays for Bursaspor, winning the 2009-10 Süper Lig. [6] He earned his first cap for the Turkey national football team in a friendly match against Honduras on 3 March 2010. [7]

The 2010–11 Fenerbahçe S.K. season was the club's 53rd consecutive season in the Süper Lig and their 104th year in existence. On 22 May, 2011, Fenerbahçe won 18th Turkish league title, but refused entry to next season's UEFA Champions League due to a falsified report from Turkish Football Federation regarding alleged match-fixing. The accused have later been cleared of all charges.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2010–11 Turkish Cup</span> Football tournament season

The 2010–11 Turkish Cup was the 49th edition of the annual tournament that determined the association football Süper Lig Turkish Cup champion under the auspices of the Turkish Football Federation. Beşiktaş successfully defeated İstanbul B.B. in the final. This tournament was conducted under the UEFA Cup system having replaced at the 44th edition a standard knockout competition scheme.

2011–12 Turkish Cup was the 50th season of the Turkish Cup, won by Fenerbahçe. Ziraat Bankası was the sponsor of the tournament, thus the sponsored name was Ziraat Turkish Cup. The tournament began with first qualifying round matches played on 7 December 2011, and concluded at the 16 May 2012 final. As winners Fenerbahçe already secured a berth in 2012–13 UEFA Champions League through league position, the runners-up Bursaspor will enter 2012–13 UEFA Europa League in second qualifying round. By winning the cup, Fenerbahçe qualified for the 2012 Turkish Super Cup.

The 2012 Turkish Cup final was the 50th final of the Turkish Cup. The final was contested between Bursaspor and Fenerbahçe. Match was played on 16 May 2012, at 20:30 local time. The venue chosen for the match was Ankara 19 Mayıs Stadium, a neutral ground for both clubs. Fenerbahçe were the winners of the match, and eventual winners of the 2011–12 Turkish Cup.
