The Battle of the Bridge is the name of the all-sports rivalry between the Canisius Golden Griffins and the Niagara Purple Eagles. [1] [2] [3] [4] Both schools are members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The two teams compete every school year in 14 sports; men's baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's golf, men's ice hockey, women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, women's softball, men's and women's swimming & diving, and women's volleyball. The overall winner of the annual series receives the Canal Cup trophy. [5] The two long time Western New York rivals created the trophy in 2007 to enhance the historic rivalry between the two schools. [6] The name of the series is a reference to the Grand Island Bridge, which each team crosses when traveling along I-190 to the other's campus. [7] [8] The name of the trophy is a reference to the Erie Canal, which separates Erie County, where Canisius is located, and Niagara County, where Niagara is located. [6]

Niagara University (NU) is a private Catholic university in the Vincentian tradition in Lewiston in Niagara County, New York. Boston University Terriers Collegiate athletic teams representing Boston University

The Boston University Terriers are the ten men's and fourteen women's varsity athletic teams representing Boston University in NCAA Division I competition. Boston University's team nickname is the Terriers, and the official mascot is Rhett the Boston Terrier. The school colors are Scarlet and White. The mascot is named Rhett after Rhett Butler from Gone With the Wind, because "no one loves Scarlet more than Rhett."

Gallagher Center

It is the home court of the Niagara Purple Eagles men's basketball and women's basketball and volleyball teams.

Southern California Crosstown Cup

The Southern California Crosstown Cup is a year-long all-sports college competition between the UCLA Bruins and the USC Trojans. While UCLA and USC have had a sports rivalry since the 1920s, the official yearly head-to-head all-sports competition began with the 2001–2002 season as the Lexus Gauntlet. After the 2008–2009 season, Lexus' sponsorship ended. For the next five seasons USC and UCLA continued to keep track of the scores and yearly winners. Without an official sponsor, the competition was referred to as the Crosstown Gauntlet from fall 2009 to spring 2014. Starting with the 2014–2015 season, the series was sponsored for two years by The Southern California BMW Centers and renamed the SoCal BMW Crosstown Cup. Since the 2016-2017 season there has again been no official sponsor and the competition has been referred to as the Crosstown Cup.

Stony Brook Seawolves

The Stony Brook Seawolves are the athletic teams of Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York, United States. The school competes at the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and participates in the America East Conference for all sports except football, in which they participate in CAA Football, the technically separate football league operated by the Colonial Athletic Association, and women's tennis, which competes as an associate member of the Missouri Valley Conference. Stony Brook will join the all-sports CAA on July 1, 2022. The official colors of the Seawolves are red, grey, and blue.

The Niagara Purple Eagles men's basketball team is the college basketball team that represents Niagara University in Lewiston, New York, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The team formerly played at the now-defunct Niagara Falls Convention and Civic Center from 1973 to 1982 and from 1988 to 1996.

UTSA Roadrunners

The UTSA Roadrunners is a collegiate athletic program that represents the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). The UTSA Roadrunners are also commonly referred to as "UTSA", "Roadrunners", "Runners", “The Meep Meeps”, or simply “The Birds”, and are represented by the mascot Rowdy. The origin of Rowdy dates back to 1977, when the Roadrunner was chosen as the university's mascot by student election. The Roadrunners compete in the NCAA Division I Conference USA in 17 varsity sports. UTSA is San Antonio's only institution that competes in Division I FBS. UTSA joined the Western Athletic Conference on July 1, 2012. In April 2012, it was announced that UTSA would join Conference USA on July 1, 2013. Marist Red Foxes

The Red Foxes are the athletic teams of Marist College. The Marist Red Foxes compete in NCAA Division I athletics as a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) the only exception being football, a member of the Pioneer Football League (PFL).

Canisius Golden Griffins Intercollegiate sports teams of Canisius College

The Canisius College Golden Griffins are composed of 16 teams representing Canisius College in intercollegiate athletics. These teams include men's and women's basketball, cross country, track, lacrosse, soccer, and swimming and diving. Men's sports include baseball, ice hockey, and golf. Women's sports include volleyball, soccer, and softball. The Golden Griffins compete in the NCAA Division I and are members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) for most sports, excluding men's ice hockey which competes in Atlantic Hockey.

The Niagara Purple Eagles are athletics teams that represent Niagara University in college sports. Part of the NCAA's Division I, the Purple Eagles field 18 varsity level teams. The Purple Eagles are members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and Atlantic Hockey. Between 1946 and 1958, Niagara was a member of the Western New York Little Three Conference.

The Battle of Brooklyn is the college sports rivalry between Long Island University and St. Francis College. The LIU Sharks and SFBK Terriers are both in the Northeast Conference and compete against each other in various sports. The Battle of Brooklyn is a fierce rivalry, which originated in men's basketball; while the two schools are rivals in all sports that both schools sponsor, the "Battle of Brooklyn" name is currently applied only to matchups in men's and women's basketball and men's soccer. The intensity of the rivalry is augmented by the proximity of the two universities, located only one mile apart in Downtown Brooklyn. The name of the rivalry is in reference to the first major battle of the American Revolutionary War, the Battle of Brooklyn.

Princeton–Rutgers rivalry American college sports rivalry

The Princeton–Rutgers rivalry is a college rivalry in athletics between the Tigers of Princeton University and Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University – New Brunswick, both of which are located in New Jersey. The rivalry dates back to the first college football game in history in 1869. Although the football series ended in 1980 due to the two schools going in different directions with their football programs, the rivalry has continued in other sports, primarily in men's basketball.

2019–20 Monmouth Hawks mens basketball team American college basketball season

The 2019–20 Monmouth Hawks men's basketball team represented Monmouth University in the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Hawks, led by ninth-year head coach King Rice, played their home games at OceanFirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, New Jersey as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They finished the season 18–13 overall, 12–8 in MAAC play to finish in a tie for third place. Before they could face #5 seeded Quinnipiac in the MAAC Tournament quarterfinals, all postseason tournaments were cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
