Stanford University is a private research university in Stanford,California. It was founded in 1885 by Leland Stanford—a railroad magnate who served as the eighth governor of and then-incumbent senator from California—and his wife,Jane,in memory of their only child,Leland Stanford Jr.. The campus occupies 8,180-acre (3,310-hectare),among the largest in the United States.

Stanford Shopping Center is an upscale open air shopping mall located on Route 82 at Sand Hill Road in Palo Alto,California. It is on the campus of Stanford University although the university only owns the land and not the actual buildings or stores. Also,unlike the main academic campus,the shopping center and the neighboring Stanford University Medical Center are part of the city of Palo Alto,not the census-designated place (CDP) of Stanford,California. The shopping center buildings are 94.4% owned by Simon Property Group,which manages the property and leases the land from the university.
Stanford Research Park (SRP) is a technology park established in 1951 as a joint initiative between Stanford University and the City of Palo Alto. It was the world's first university research park. It has more than 150 companies,including Hewlett-Packard,Tesla Motors,TIBCO and VMware;previous high-profile tenants include Steve Jobs's NeXT Computer,Xerox PARC,and Facebook. The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority,more commonly known simply as the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA),is a special district responsible for public transit services,congestion management,specific highway improvement projects,and countywide transportation planning for Santa Clara County,California. It serves San Jose,California,and the surrounding Silicon Valley. It is one of the governing parties for the Caltrain commuter rail line that serves the county. In 2022,the VTA's public transportation services had a combined ridership of 21,381,600,or about 84,800 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2023.
Frederick Emmons Terman was an American professor and academic administrator. He was the dean of the school of engineering from 1944 to 1958 and provost from 1955 to 1965 at Stanford University. He is widely credited as being the father of Silicon Valley.
Saren Joseph Simitian is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party,he was the State Senator representing California's 11th State Senate district,which encompasses all or part of 13 cities in San Mateo,Santa Clara,and Santa Cruz counties,from 2004 to 2012. Approaching his term limit at the end of 2012,he ran for and was elected as a Santa Clara County Supervisor. He was re-elected to the same seat in 2016 and again in 2020.
J. Jeffrey Morgan is an American conservationist and former technology executive. He is best known for founding Global Heritage Fund (GHF),a non-profit organization that works internationally to preserve cultural heritage sites in the developing world. From 2002 to 2012,Morgan served as GHF's Executive Director.
Ken Yeager is an American politician. He served on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors,representing District 4. First elected to the board in 2006,he represented the cities of Campbell and Santa Clara,as well as west San Jose and the Burbank and Cambrian neighborhoods. Previously,Yeager served on the San Jose City Council from 2000 to 2006. Before that,he served two terms on the San Jose/Evergreen Community College Board. He was a candidate for the 23rd district seat in the California State Assembly in 1996,coming in second.
Palo Alto station is an intermodal transit center in Palo Alto,California. It is served by Caltrain regional rail service,SamTrans and Santa Clara VTA local bus service,Dumbarton Express regional bus service,the Stanford University Marguerite Shuttle,and several local shuttle services. Palo Alto is the second-busiest Caltrain station after San Francisco,averaging 7,764 weekday boardings by a 2018 count. The Caltrain station has two side platforms serving the two tracks of the Peninsula Subdivision and a nearby bus transfer plaza.
Stanford station is a Caltrain station in Palo Alto,California,near the stadium on the Stanford University campus. It is not a regular stop;instead,it is only in service for Stanford football home games and other large events at the stadium. The usual stop for the university is the Palo Alto station. The station does not have ticket vending machines;however,when in use,Caltrain staff will be present with handheld Clipper card readers so people can tag on and off.
Byron D. Sher is an American Democratic politician. He served in the California State Senate from 1996 to 2004,prior to which,he served in the California State Assembly between 1980 and 1996. Sher was also a longtime professor at Stanford Law School. He served as the California Senate Rules Committee appointee to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency from 2009 to 2012.

Sid Espinosa is an American businessman and politician. He is the former mayor of Palo Alto,CA,notably the first Hispanic to be elected to public office in that city's history,and at 38 years old at the time he was elected,he was one of the city's youngest mayors. He is also the Director of Corporate Citizenship for Microsoft Corporation in the Silicon Valley.
Aram Byer James is a former Santa Clara County,CA Assistant Public Defender,police watchdog,social activist,and civil rights attorney. As an expert on the defense of necessity,he headed the team of attorneys defending Stanford University students and professors arrested in anti-apartheid protests in 1980’s. He is an advocate of jury nullification,educator in the use of the Marsden Motion to fire ineffective public defenders,a critic of the prison industrial complex,and critic of police use of tasers and racial profiling.
