Nicosia, also known as Lefkosia and Lefkoşa, is the capital and largest city of Cyprus. It is the southeasternmost of all EU member states' capital cities.
Rauf Raif Denktaş was a Turkish Cypriot politician, barrister and jurist who served as the founding president of Northern Cyprus. He occupied this position as the president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus between the declaration of the de facto state by Denktaş in 1983 and 2005, as the president of the Turkish Federated State of Cyprus between 1975 and 1983 and as the president of the Autonomous Turkish Cypriot Administration between 1974 and 1975. He was also elected in 1973 as the vice-president of the Republic of Cyprus.
North Nicosia or Northern Nicosia is the capital and largest city of the de facto state of Northern Cyprus. It is the northern part of the divided city of Nicosia, and is governed by the Nicosia Turkish Municipality. As of 2011, North Nicosia had a population of 61,378 and a metropolitan area with a population of 82,539.
Kythrea is a small town in Cyprus, 10 km northeast of Nicosia. Kythrea is under the de facto control of Northern Cyprus.
The Embassy of Turkey in North Nicosia is the sole embassy in Northern Cyprus as the rest of the international community locate their embassies to the Cyprus island in the Republic of Cyprus. The island is divided between four sides; the unrecognised Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to the north, the internationally recognised Republic of Cyprus to the south, the United Nations buffer zone separating the two, and the British overseas territories of Akrotiri and Dhekelia. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is only recognised by Turkey, therefore its embassy is in the capital North Nicosia. Turkey does not recognise the Republic of Cyprus. The incumbent ambassador is Metin Feyzioğlu since 28 November 2022.
Northern Cyprus is recognised only by Turkey, a country which facilitates many of its contacts with the international community. After it was occupied by Turkey, Northern Cyprus' relations with the rest of the world were further complicated by a series of United Nations resolutions which declared its independence legally invalid. A 2004 UN Referendum on settling the Cyprus dispute was accepted by the Turkish Cypriots but rejected by the Greek Cypriots. After that, the European Union declared its intentions to assist in reducing the economic isolation of Northern Cyprus and began giving aid to the territory. However, due to pressure from Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, this aid coming from EU funds cannot be used on Greek Cypriot land and property nor on public bodies. As a result, these funds can be used only on 29 percent of people on the island of Cyprus.
Gönyeli is a town in Cyprus, near the capital city Nicosia. It is de facto under the control of Northern Cyprus. Over the years the town has merged with North Nicosia, making it connurbated with the city. Its population as of 2011 is 11,671.
The Cyprus Turkish Peace Force Command is the Turkish garrison in Cyprus. In 1974 Turkish troops invaded Cyprus following a Greek Cypriot coup d'état which wanted to force union with Greece, occupying the northern third of the island. The invasion force consisted of about 40,000 soldiers and 200 tanks. It outnumbers the Greek military contingent on the island, which is supplemented by the Greek Cypriot National Guard consisting of 12,000 active and 75,000 reserves. Air reinforcement of the Turkish troops can be effected, if necessary, within hours.
Hamitköy is an affluent northern suburb of North Nicosia in Cyprus. Hamitköy is under the de facto control of Northern Cyprus, and, since 2008, it has been under the jurisdiction of the Nicosia Turkish Municipality. As of 2011, Hamitköy had a population of 5,338. Prior to its urbanisation, it was better known as Mandres or Hamit Mandres.

Yenişehir ; Greek: Νεάπολη Neapoli; literally meaning "new city" both in Turkish and Greek) is a suburb of North Nicosia. Its population was 4156 in 2006, with 2135 males and 2021 females. The first settlement to the area was made between the years of 1930 and 1945. There is usually heavy traffic in the area, and some roads are double laned, but this does not lighten the traffic. Nicosia Bus Terminal, Nicosia Municipal Theatre, Nicosia Police Headquarters, Northern Cyprus State Theatre, the old railway station of Nicosia and Şehit Hüseyin Ruso Stadium, which is home to Küçük Kaymaklı Türk S.K. are located in the suburb.
The culture of Northern Cyprus is the pattern of human activity and symbolism associated with Northern Cyprus and Turkish Cypriots. It features significant elements influenced by or developed upon the culture of Turkey, but combines these elements with a unique Cypriot approach and local traditions, as well as several other influences, such as the British and contemporary western cultures.
Dereboyu Avenue, also known simply as Dereboyu and officially as Mehmet Akif Avenue, is the busiest avenue in North Nicosia, as well as its centre of entertainment. The term "Dereboyu" means "alongside the river", and although in the traditional sense this is only used for Mehmet Akif Avenue running alongside the Pedieos river, the term has expanded in meaning to denote a region extending to the neighbouring Osman Paşa Avenue.
Arab Ahmet is a neighbourhood, quarter, mahalla or parish of Nicosia, Cyprus and the mosque situated therein. Both the quarter and the mosque are named after Arab Ahmet Pasha, one of the Turkish commanders in the Ottoman conquest of Nicosia. It is spelled Arabahmet in Turkish and Άραπ Άχμετ in Greek.
Köşklüçiftlik is a quarter of North Nicosia in Northern Cyprus. In 2011, it had a population of 2,939.
Göçmenköy is a quarter of North Nicosia in Northern Cyprus. As of 2011, it had a population of 3,003. It was founded in 1966 as a settlement for the Turkish Cypriots displaced by the intercommunal violence. The formerly rural area became heavily urbanized in the 1960s and 70s. Göçmenköy became a vibrant part of North Nicosia, and is home to the Atatürk Sports Complex, which is home to the Nicosia Atatürk Stadium, the largest stadium in Northern Cyprus. It co-hosts an annual international festival.

Ömeriye Mosque, is a mosque in the walled city of Nicosia on the island of Cyprus, currently located in the south section of Nicosia. Following the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the mosque gained significance as one of the most important sites of Muslim worship in the non-Muslim section of the island and the city.
