Belarus has an embassy in Ashgabat. [1] Turkmenistan has an embassy in Minsk. Both countries are full members of the UN, and the OSCE. Belarus is a full member and Turkmenistan is associated with the CIS. Currently, the ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belarus is Murad Yazberdyev. [2] The Belarusian Ambassador to Turkmenistan is Oleg Tabanyuhov. [3]
Diplomatic relations were established 21 January 1993. Turkmenistan's embassy was opened in October 1995 in Minsk, with the first ambassador being Ilya Veljanov. The embassy Belarus to Turkmenistan opened in 2002. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko visited Turkmenistan four times (May 2002, June 2009, [4] April 2011, [5] and November 2013 [6] ). In January 2010, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited Belarus. [7]
Trade turnover between the two countries in 2013 exceeded $300 million. [8] Belarus exports to Turkmenistan engineering products: traffic, construction and agricultural machinery, municipal and urban passenger transport, tractors, trucks, as well as bicycles, trucks, pharmaceuticals, chemical fibers, wood products, food products. [9] Belgorkhimprom builds Garlyk Mining Plant [10] for the production of potash capacity of 1.4 million tons per year in the Lebap District Turkmenistan. The total contract value is $1 billion. [11] In Minsk exists a Turkmen-Belarusian Trading House, [12] and respectively in Ashgabat is a Belarusian-Turkmen Trade House. [13]
Both countries held joint exhibitions and other events. Additionally, there are 7,400 Turkmen students studying at universities in Belarus. [14]
The Byelorussian SSR was one of only two Soviet republics to be separate members of the United Nations. Both republics and the Soviet Union joined the UN when the organization was founded in 1945.
The economy of Turkmenistan continues to recover from the 2014 downturn in hydrocarbon prices, but remains "in the grip of its worst economic crisis since the immediate post-independence period, driven in part by low gas prices, the suspension of gas exports to Russia between 2016 and 2019...and poor harvests." Former President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow at a session of the Cabinet of Ministers on March 11, 2021, called the rate of GDP growth unsatisfactory. When discussing the 2021 government budget, he noted that 2021 would be "as difficult" a year as 2020 had been.
Ashgabat or Asgabat, formerly named Poltoratsk between 1919 and 1927, is the capital and the largest city of Turkmenistan. It lies between the Karakum Desert and the Kopetdag mountain range in Central Asia, near the Iran-Turkmenistan border, and it has a population of 1,030,063.

Currently, Belarus has an embassy in Riga, while Latvia has an embassy in Minsk. The countries share 161 km as it relates to their common border. In May 2021 the relations were de facto terminated as both countries were expelling each other's diplomats of the corresponding embassy, Latvia was insisting to use an inaccurate opposition flag as a representation for Belarus in the Ice Hockey World Championship in Riga over the Ryanair Flight 4978 diplomatic row. Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei called Latvia's move 'an act of international vandalism' and called for an apology and return the legal green, red and white flag to its original place. The Belarusian government reacted with expelling every Latvian diplomat including the Ambassador inside the country, with Latvia following with the same response. The Zurich-based International Ice Hockey Federation sided with Belarus and asked the mayor of Riga to urgently take down the IIHF flags to protest to what the body called a political gesture.

The Ashgabat Monorail is a monorail line on the Olympic Village in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Construction started in 2012, by Turkish construction company Polimeks and completed in 2016. It uses a 25-meter rolling stock by Intamin.
Valery Vilyamovich Tsepkalo or Valery Vilyamavich Tsapkala is a Belarusian politician and entrepreneur. After graduating from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations with a doctoral degree in international law and serving in the embassy of the Soviet Union in Finland, Tsepkalo joined the staff of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He later became an advisor on foreign political and economic relations to the Chairman of the Belarusian Parliament, Stanislav Shushkevich, and then a senior advisor to the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The Honor Guard Company of the Minsk Military Commandant is an honor guard unit of the Armed Forces of Belarus.
The Government House or House of Government is a government building in Minsk located on Independence Square. It houses the National Assembly of Belarus and its two chambers: the Council of the Republic and the House of Representatives. The National Assembly is one of the highest organs of national power and symbolism in the country. It was built in 1934 and designed by Iosif Langbard. It stands behind a statue of Vladimir Lenin and is one of the few buildings that survived the Great Patriotic War.
Presidential elections were held in Belarus on Sunday, 9 August 2020. Early voting began on 4 August and ran until 8 August.
The COVID-19 pandemic in Belarus was a part of the ongoing worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was confirmed to have spread to Belarus, when the first case of COVID-19 in the country was registered in Minsk on 28 February 2020. As of 29 January 2023, a total of 19,047,714 vaccine doses have been administered.
Turkmenistan is the only remaining sovereign country in the world that has not reported any cases of COVID-19. There were no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Turkmenistan, with the totalitarian government being proactive in censoring relevant information. It is however suspected to have spread in the country unreported; specifics are difficult to ascertain and confirm in absence of independent media.
Belneftekhim is an association of petrochemical companies in Belarus, subordinated to the Council of Ministers. It manages these companies and regulates several aspects of the petrochemical sector, including setting retail prices for gasoline.
Lieutenant General Ilýa Weljanowiç Weljanow was a Soviet-Turkmen politician and diplomat, as well as a Belarusian public figure. He is the first Turkmen general in the Soviet Armed Forces and the first Lieutenant general of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan.
