Beloved is an American post-hardcore band from Kernersville, North Carolina, United States.
Beloved formed in the fall of 1999. The original members all attended East Forsyth High School in Kernersville, NC from 1996-2000. They played local shows in the surrounding areas of Kernersville where they grew in popularity almost immediately. In 2000, they independently released their first album, ...And So It Goes. The band toured the country with bands such as Underoath, Luti-Kriss/Norma Jean and Cool Hand Luke, including a performance at the Cornerstone Festival.
In the spring of 2001, they gained the attention of upstart label Vindicated Records, who released their next release, The Running, later that year. During this time, the band also released a limited online pre-release for The Running which included rough studio versions of the tracks "The Blue Period" and "Into Your Arms." The second track was not included on the Vindicated Records release was not commercially released until the second re-release by Solid State Records.
In 2002, the band was in the process of signing with Takehold Records. [2] However, the owner of Takehold Records, Chad Johnson, was also negotiating the sale of the label to Tooth & Nail Records at the time.
Ultimately, Takehold was sold to Tooth & Nail and Beloved signed with Tooth & Nail's Solid State Records division. Solid State re-released their EP, The Running, for their performance at Cornerstone in the summer of 2002. [3]
In late 2002, while on tour with Luti-Kriss/Norma Jean, both bands spontaneously recorded a split EP consisting of two songs from each band. This "release" was nicknamed the One Night Split and was incredibly limited. Only a handful of copies in CD-R format were produced, and these were handed out to lucky fans at subsequent tour stops after their recording. The two tracks from Luti-Kriss were later renamed and found their way onto the group's first release as Norma Jean, Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child ; while Beloved's half included the anthem "Death to Traitors" which was released on their full-length album Failure On, and one track titled "Westward Shining" which remains unreleased.
The following year, the band entered the studio with producer GGGarth to record their follow-up full-length album, Failure On. [4] The band supported the album with extensive touring and another re-release of The Running with the previously recorded bonus track "Into Your Arms" in 2004.
Their farewell show took place in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on January 14, 2005. The show also featured Underoath, Classic Case, Glass Casket, and a special surprise appearance by Norma Jean. Footage of their farewell show was released as a DVD, Kiss it Goodbye. Former members of Beloved went on to play in bands such as Classic Case, Dead Poetic and The Almost.
On November 27, 2015, multiple members announced on their personal Instagram profiles a sale on Beloved merchandise. Bassist Johnny Smirdel stated that fans should keep their ears open for 2016, hinting a possible reunion. [5] It was revealed Nov. 29th 2019 via the band’s Instagram that they were together working on something for 2020, starting with the band's first show in 15 years at Furnace Fest 2020.
In September 2021 they released a new single 'Abyss'.

They're Only Chasing Safety is the fourth album by American rock band Underoath. It was released on June 15, 2004, through Solid State Records. Following the release of their third studio effort The Changing of Times (2002), half of the band's members were replaced. After finalizing the line-up with vocalist Spencer Chamberlain, the band recorded their next release with producer James Paul Wisner at his home studio Wisner Productions in February 2004. The album has been tagged with various genres including screamo and melodic hardcore and features subtle references to Christianity. Drummer Aaron Gillespie had more of a vocal presence to contrast Chamberlain's screams.
Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child is the debut album by American metalcore band Norma Jean, released on August 13, 2002 by Solid State Records. It is the band's only album to feature bassist Joshua Doolittle and vocalist Josh Scogin, the latter of whom later became the lead vocalist of The Chariot.

Act of Depression is the debut studio album by Underoath. Released July 4, 1999, through Takehold Records, the album was out of print for some time as there were only 2,000 copies originally released. Solid State reissued this album alongside Cries of the Past on August 20, 2013.
Cries of the Past is the second studio album by Underoath, released on July 4, 2000, through Takehold Records. Only 3,000 copies of the album were pressed and, like Act of Depression, it was out of print for years. The album is the last to feature guitarist Corey Steger and the first to include keyboardist Christopher Dudley. Alongside their debut album, this album was reissued through Solid State Records on August 20, 2013.
Throwing Myself is the only studio album by Luti-Kriss. It was released in 2001 on Solid State Records. After the release of this album, the band changed their name to Norma Jean.
Pluto Records is a record label started in 1999 by Eric Shirey and Brian Cobbel. Since 2002, it has been owned and operated by Brian Cobbel and based near Dallas, TX. It is primarily known for punk, metal and hardcore releases, although not exclusively. The label has been home and launching pad to such bands as Grammy-nominated metal act As I Lay Dying, HORSE the band, Luti-Kriss, Society's Finest and more. Pluto Records is currently a member of the Warner Music Group division of East West Records.
Norma Jean is an American metalcore band from Douglasville, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. Since their inception in 1997, numerous lineup changes have left the band with no original members. To date, Norma Jean has released nine studio albums and received a Grammy Award nomination in 2006 for Best Recording Package for their second album O' God, the Aftermath. The band's name is derived from the real name of actress Marilyn Monroe.
Josh Scogin is an American musician, and is currently the vocalist and guitarist for '68. He is also known for being the vocalist for The Chariot, and former vocalist of Norma Jean and Luti-Kriss. Scogin has recorded solo material as A Rose, By Any Other Name, releasing an album in 2010.
Narcissus was an influential American hardcore band formed by John LaRussa and John Pope in 1998 in Canton, Ohio. In addition to John Pope and John LaRussa (guitar), who were in the band from start to finish, members included, at various times, Justin Carroll (bass), Ray Taylor, Derek Carter (percussion), Bill Wensel (percussion), Stephen Cushman (percussion) and Josh King (bass). The band was on the now-defunct label Takehold Records before joining Century Media. A few albums were re-released through Tooth & Nail. Before breaking up the band were featured on The Vans Warped tour and were getting ready to hit Europe for their international release of Crave and Collapse, which was received well over seas. They announced that they have reunited and become a band again in 2020 after John Pope and John LaRussa were offered a spot on the famous Furnace Fest, performing on day 1, September 24th, 2021 along with bands Converge, Glassjaw, Killswitch Engage, Everytime I Die and many others. They performed their first show on September 11, 2021.
Dustin Wesley "Dusty" Redmon is an American guitarist primarily known for playing in alternative rock band The Almost and former guitarist and songwriter for Beloved and Dead Poetic. Redmon was born on May 23, 1982, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He is cousins with his bandmate, Joe Musten.
Daniel Travis Davison was born January 28th, 1983. He is an American musician, songwriter, artist, and filmmaker. He is also a co-founder and former drummer of the band Norma Jean. Davison is also a former drummer of Underoath and Every Time I Die.
Strongarm was a five-piece Christian and straight edge hardcore band, formed in Pompano Beach, Florida. They were one of the first "Spirit-Filled" hardcore bands, along with Unashamed, Overcome, Focused and Zao.
Advent is a hardcore band from Kernersville, North Carolina. The band featured members of an earlier post-hardcore band named Beloved, and was formed in 2005 after the break of Beloved. The band had released two albums under the label Solid State Records. The band announced in July 2011 that they had disbanded, and held two final shows on September 2 and 3 in South Carolina and North Carolina, respectively. The band, as of 2015, had reunited and is releasing a new album titled, Pain and Suffering. The band has recently signed to Bridge 9. The group has been called "...one of the state's heaviest exports..."
Dead Poetic is an American rock band formed in Dayton, Ohio in 1997. Their most recent lineup consisted of vocalist Brandon Rike, guitarist Zach Miles, and drummer Jesse Sprinkle. They released three albums and a greatest hits album, The Finest, on Tooth & Nail Records. The band lapsed into inactivity in 2007 due to internal strife and inability to tour, though Rike has stated that the band plans to record a fourth album.
Joe Musten is an American musician who started his musical career in 1999. He formed Beloved, Advent, Your Son Is Dead, and Torn. In 2008, he joined the band The Almost after former drummer Kenny Bozich quit the band. Joe was featured in the December 2009 issue of DRUM Magazine alongside former bandmate Aaron Gillespie. He formed the band, Torn, and was featured on the self-titled debut album, but was un-credited.
Few Left Standing is a Christian metal band that primarily played Christian hardcore and was signed to Takehold Records. The band's debut album was produced by Living Sacrifice frontman, Bruce Fitzhugh. The band has toured with Underoath, Narcissus, and Tantrum of the Muse. On December 3, 2019, it was announced that the band would be returning to perform at Furnace Fest 2020, alongside a recently reunited Beloved.
Kris McCaddon was the original guitarist for the metalcore band, Society's Finest and lead guitarist for Demon Hunter. He was also the vocalist for the bands Embodyment and The Famine.
Furnace Fest is an American music festival held over three days at the Sloss Furnaces National Historical Landmark in Birmingham, Alabama. It ran annually each August from 2000–2003, and has since resumed each September since 2021. As of 2022, Furnace Fest has been held six times, with its most recent edition taking place from September 23-25, 2022.
