Belvidere North High School is the second high school in Belvidere, Illinois and part of the Belvidere Community Unit School District 100. It is right next to Seth Whitman Elementary School and Belvidere Central Middle School.

Athletics

Belvidere North's team name is Blue Thunder. They are part of the NIC-10 conference. The school's sports teams include volleyball, football, baseball, basketball, tennis, swimming, track and field, soccer, and cross country. Their biggest rival is Belvidere High School .

The 1967 Oak Lawn tornado outbreak was a destructive tornado outbreak and severe weather event that occurred on April 21, 1967, across the Upper Midwest, in particular the towns of Belvidere and Oak Lawn, Illinois. Locally known as 'Black Friday,' it was the largest tornado outbreak of 1967 and one of the most notable to ever occur in the Chicago metropolitan area. The outbreak produced numerous and significant (F2+) tornadoes, with ten of them in Illinois alone. Included was one of just six documented violent (F4/F5) tornadoes in the Chicago metropolitan area since the area was first settled.

Belvidere Community Unit School District 100 is a unified school district located in Belvidere, the county seat of Boone County, Illinois. The school district is composed of twelve schools in all, with all schools being located in or near the city limits of Belvidere, with the exception of Caledonia Elementary School in Caledonia, Illinois. There are five elementary schools, one STEM academy, two middle schools, and two high schools. The current superintendent is Dr. Daniel Woestman.
