The World Curling Federation (WCF) is the world governing body for curling accreditation, with offices in Perth, Scotland. It was formed out of the International Curling Federation (ICF), when the push for Olympic Winter Sport status was made. The name was changed in 1990.

Arne Hoel was a Norwegian ski jumper who competed in the 1940s and 1950s. He won the ski jumping event at the Holmenkollen ski festival three times. Because of his successes, Hoel was awarded the Holmenkollen medal in 1956. He also finished sixth and eleventh in the individual large hill event at the 1952 and 1956 Winter Olympics, respectively.
Christoffer Svae is a Norwegian curler from Oslo. He is best known as the former second for Team Thomas Ulsrud.

The World Curling Championships are the annual world championships for curling, organized by the World Curling Federation and contested by national championship teams. There are men's, women's and mixed doubles championships, as well as men's and women's versions of junior and senior championships. There is also a world championship for wheelchair curling. The men's championship started in 1959, while the women's started in 1979. The mixed doubles championship was started in 2008. Since 2005, the men's and women's championships have been held in different venues, with Canada hosting one of the two championships every year: the men's championship in odd years, and the women's championship in even years. Canada has dominated both the men's and women's championships since their inception, although Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Scotland, the United States, Norway and China have all won at least one championship.

The season began in Muonio, Finland on 28 November 1998 and finished at Holmenkollen, Oslo, Norway on 20 March 1999. Bjørn Dæhlie of Norway won the overall men's cup. Bente Martinsen of Norway won the women's cup on more victories than Stefania Belmondo of Italy after both finished the season achieving 768 points.
The 2001–02 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was the 21st official World Cup season in cross-country skiing for men and ladies. The season began in Kuopio, Finland on 24 November 2001 and finished in Lillehammer, Norway on 23 March 2002. Per Elofsson of Sweden won the overall men's cup, and Bente Skari of Norway won the women's.

The qualification event of the 2013 World Wheelchair Curling Championship was held from November 3 to 8, 2012 at the Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja, Finland, which hosted the qualification tournaments for the past two World Wheelchair Curling Championships. The qualification event was open to any World Curling Federation affiliated national team not already qualified. The event's two top finishers, Norway and Finland, will join the top 8 finishers from the last World Wheelchair Curling Championship at this season's event in Sochi, Russia.
Trygve Henrik Hoff, born in Rognan, Nordland, was a Norwegian singer, composer, songwriter, and writer. He was a teacher at Buskerud folkehøgskole (Heimtun) for many years when he lived in Darbu, Øvre Eiker. For some time, Trygve Hoff was the conductor of Berlevåg Mannsangforening.

The 2017 World Wheelchair Curling Championship was held from March 4 to 11 at the Gangneung Curling Centre in Gangneung, South Korea. Norway won a third title after winning over Russia, who defeated Norway during the 2016 championship final.
