Bente Paulis (born 14 February 1997) is a Dutch rower. She won a silver medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the quadruple sculls.

Career

At the 2022 European Rowing Championships in Munich, she won a silver medal in the women's quadruple sculls. [2] At the 2022 World Rowing Championships held in the Czech Republic, she also won a silver medal. [3]

The following year, in 2023, Paulis also won silver in the quadruple sculls at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade. [4] [5]

She was part of the Dutch four that placed second at the first two World Cup events of 2024. She was selected for the 2024 Paris Olympics. [6]

Personal life

She is the younger sister of rower and former Olympic champion Ilse Paulis. [7] Their youngest sister Femke is also a rower and has competed in three junior world championships. [8]

Michiel Bernhard Emiel Marie Bartman is a former rower from the Netherlands, who won a total of three Olympic medals during his career. A member of the Nereus Rowing Club from Amsterdam, he won the gold medal in Atlanta with the Holland Acht, followed by silver in Sydney and silver (Eights) once again in Athens. He also won three medals at the World Championships, bronze in the coxed four in 1994, silver with the Holland Acht in 1995 and silver in the Quadruple Sculls in 2001. Notably the Netherlands eight set the world record in the men's eight in Atlanta that stood until 2002. Bartman's earned notoriety within the international rowing community as a fierce competitor with a rare ability to time his best performances for the Olympic Games.

Martin Sinković is a Croatian rower. He is the younger brother of fellow rower Valent Sinković, with whom he has won three Olympic gold medals. The brothers are the most decorated Croatian Summer Olympians in history and won gold medals in the double sculls at the 2016 Summer Olympics, the coxless pair at the 2020 Summer Olympics and the coxless pair at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Sinković won the silver medal in the quadruple sculls at the 2012 Summer Olympics with his brother, David Šain and Damir Martin. He is a six-time world champion, twice in quadruple sculls, double sculls and coxless pair each, and seven-time European champion, with four titles in double sculls and three titles in coxless pair. Sinković is also a two-time U23 world champion in quadruple sculls with his brother, Šain and Martin.

Eve Macfarlane is a New Zealand rower. Described as a "natural rower", she went to the 2009 World Rowing Junior Championships within a few months of having taken up rowing and won a silver medal. She represented New Zealand at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London as the country's youngest Olympian at those games. She was the 2015 world champion in the women's double sculls with Zoe Stevenson. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, they came fourth in the semi-finals and thus missed the A final.

Inge Janssen is a Dutch rower. A world champion in the women's four, she was part of the Dutch quadruple sculls that won silver at the 2016 Olympics and competed in the double sculls at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Olivia Loe is a New Zealand representative rower. She is a two-time world champion in the double scull and is the incumbent world champion winning gold at the 2019 World Rowing Championships with Brooke Donoghue. She has been selected in the New Zealand senior squad for the 2020 Summer Olympics but in a surprise move at the final crew selections Loe was replaced in the double scull by Hannah Osborne and selected to race the New Zealand women's quad-scull.

Marieke Keijser is a Dutch representative rower. She is an Olympian and won the silver medal in the lightweight single sculls at the 2017 World Rowing Championships and the gold medal at the 2018 European Rowing Championships. She is racing the Dutch lightweight women's double scull with Ilse Paulis at Tokyo 2021.

Lucy Spoors is a New Zealand rower. She is a 2019 world champion winning the women's eight title at the 2019 World Rowing Championships.

Karolien Florijn is a Dutch rower. She was a member of the Dutch coxless four, along with Ellen Hogerwerf, Ymkje Clevering and Veronique Meester, that won an Olympic silver medal in Tokyo 2020. The same crew was a three-time European Champion and won a silver medal at the 2019 World Rowing Championships. Florijn returned to the single sculls in 2022, winning the overall World Rowing Cup trophy and winning the gold medal at the European Championships in Munich. She won the single sculls event at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games.
