Benton Township covers an area of 34.53 square miles (89.4 km2) and contains no incorporated settlements. According to the USGS, it contains two cemeteries: Highland and Saint Josephs.

It contains six incorporated towns as well as several small unincorporated settlements; it is divided into 11 townships which provide local services. The county seat is Fowler.
