Bernadine Kennedy Kent is a former state representative for the 25th District of the Ohio House of Representatives. She is a Democrat. The district consists of a portion of Columbus as well as portions of Blendon,Clinton,Mifflin and Sharon townships in Franklin County.
Kennedy Kent was born and raised in East Chicago,Indiana,as the daughter of immigrants from the South who worked in the steel mills. She would later attend Central State University,settling in Ohio thereafter. Her husband,a Vietnam Green Beret,is the son of a Tuskegee Airman. [1]
A lifelong educator,Kent taught for years in the Columbus Public Schools system. She ran unsuccessfully for the Columbus Board of Education twice. Despite this,Kennedy Kent was successful in her run for State Representative of the 25th district in 2016. She is known as a whistleblower and known as a community advocate on a variety of issues. [2]
In 2016,Kennedy Kent opted to run for the Ohio House following news that incumbent Representative Kevin Boyce would instead run for Franklin County Commissioner. In a four-way Democratic primary,Kennedy Kent received a plurality of over 35% of the vote. [3] Kennedy Kent received the endorsement of the Franklin County Democratic Party,the Columbus Education Association and other union groups. She was also endorsed by the Columbus Dispatch. In her first term as State Representative of the 25th District and with a majority Republican House and Senate,Representative Kent introduced H.B. 317 to mandate that Ohio law enforcement report child abuse and neglect. Ohio had been the only state left where law enforcement were not mandated reporters.
After criticism for use of an official Ohio Legislative Black Caucus letterhead as Vice President of the black caucus,she was expelled from Ohio's House Democratic caucus. Citing safety reasons and intimidation,she has refused to show up at the Ohio Statehouse for over a year after being physically obstructed from her Caucus by the Caucus legal counsel Sarah Cherry but still retains her seat and her salary.
Representative Kent has stated her constituents are losing out because of the actions of her Democratic colleagues. She also created a second bill,which passed into law,that named a highway in memory of an Ohio Department of Transportation worker. She has also retained an attorney to file a writ of mandamus to fight for victims of crime and ensure Marsy’s law is adhered to after Ohioans overwhelming voted to amend the Ohio Constitution to expand the rights of victims of crimes. In September 2020,Kennedy Kent endorsed Republican President Donald Trump for reelection over Democratic nominee Joe Biden. [5] [6] [7]
Timothy John Ryan is an American politician who served as a U.S. representative for Ohio from 2003 to 2023. A member of the Democratic Party,he represented Ohio's 13th congressional district from 2013 to 2023,having previously represented Ohio's 17th congressional district from 2003 to 2013. Ryan's district included a large swath of northeastern Ohio,from Youngstown to Akron. He was the Democratic nominee in the 2022 United States Senate election in Ohio,which he lost to JD Vance.
Joyce Marie Beatty is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for Ohio's 3rd congressional district since 2013,and as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus from 2021 to 2023. A member of the Democratic Party,Beatty represented the 27th district in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1999 to 2008,serving for a time as minority leader. She was also previously the senior vice-president for outreach and engagement at Ohio State University.
Richard Adams Cordray is an American lawyer and politician who served from 2021 to 2024 as COO of Federal Student Aid in the United States Department of Education. From 2012 to 2017,he served as the first director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Before that,Cordray variously served as Ohio's attorney general,solicitor general,and treasurer. He was the Democratic nominee for governor of Ohio in 2018. In April 2024,the Biden administration announced Cordray's departure after a chaotic rollout of changes to the FAFSA student aid application form.
Mary Jo Kilroy is an American attorney and politician who served as the U.S. representative for Ohio's 15th congressional district from 2009 until 2011. She is a member of the Democratic Party from Ohio. She was defeated in her November 2,2010 re-election bid. In 2012,she ran in the newly redrawn,Columbus-based 3rd congressional district but lost in the primary.

A member of the Democratic Party,she was a Cleveland City Council member from 2006 to 2008 and a member of the Ohio Senate from 2008 until 2014. Turner was the Democratic nominee for Ohio Secretary of State in 2014,but lost in the general election against incumbent Jon Husted,receiving 35.5 percent of the vote. A self-described democratic socialist,her politics have been variously described as progressive,left-wing,or far-left.
Emilia Strong Sykes is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for Ohio's 13th congressional district since 2023. A member of the Democratic Party,she formerly represented the 34th district of the Ohio House of Representatives,which consists of portions of the Akron area. From 2019 until 2021,she also served as minority leader of that chamber.

A member of the Democratic Party,She served as the state representative for the 18th District of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2016 to 2023.
