The 2019 Biathlon Junior World Championships was held in Osrblie, Slovakia from 27 January to 3 February 2019. [1] There was a total of 16 competitions: sprint, pursuit, individual and relay races for men and women.

Biathlon Junior World Championships were first held in 1967 for men and in 1984 for women.

Osrblie Village in Slovakia

Osrblie is a village and municipality in Brezno District, in the Banská Bystrica Region of central Slovakia. The village is best known for biathlon races, with Biathlon World Cup events taking place since the mid-1990s and with one Biathlon World Championships in 1997. It also hosted the biathlon event at the 2015 Winter Universiade.

Slovakia Republic in Central Europe

Slovakia, officially the Slovak Republic, is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is bordered by Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east, Hungary to the south, Austria to the west, and the Czech Republic to the northwest. The first Biathlon World Championships (BWCH) was held in 1958, with individual and team contests for men. The number of events has grown significantly over the years. Beginning in 1984, women biathletes had their own World Championships, and finally, from 1989, both genders have been participating in joint BWCHs. In 1978 the development was enhanced by the change from the large army rifle calibre to a small bore rifle, while the range to the target was reduced from 150 to 50 meters.

Emil Hegle Svendsen Norwegian biathlete

Emil Hegle Svendsen is a retired Norwegian biathlete. He has won eight medals at Winter Olympics and five individual gold medals and seven relay gold medals at World Championships.

Patrick Favre is a former Italian biathlete. At the Biathlon World Championships 1997 in Osrblie he won a bronze medal with the Italian relay team. Two years later at the Biathlon World Championships 1999 in Kontiolahti he won a silver medal in the sprint event. In the 1994–95 season he came second in the overall World Cup behind Jon Åge Tyldum. After the 2000–01 season, he retired as biathlete, though he had a short-lived comeback during the 2003–04 season. Following his retirement, he became a coach, spending seven years with the Italian national biathlon team before joining the French national men's biathlon team in June 2018 on a four year contract.

René Cattarinussi is a former Italian biathlete.

2015 Winter Universiade

The 2015 Winter Universiade, the XXVII Winter Universiade, was a multi sport winter event held in Granada, Spain and Štrbské Pleso, Slovakia. On 14 March 2009, FISU announced that the host would be Granada because they were the only bid.

The 32nd Biathlon World Championships were held in 1997 in Brezno-Osrblie, Slovakia. The pursuit races were contested for the first time in the world championships.

Valentyna Semerenko Ukrainian biathlete

Valentyna Oleksandrivna Semerenko, known also as Valya Semerenko and featuring in statistics as Valj Semerenko is a Ukrainian biathlete. She is Olympic and World champion, multiple World championships medalist and one of the most successful Ukrainian winter athletes.

The 19th Biathlon European Championships were held in Osrblie, Slovakia from January 25 to February 2, 2012.

The 2001–02 Biathlon World Cup was a multi-race tournament over a season of biathlon, organised by the International Biathlon Union. The season started on 6 December 2001 in Hochfilzen, Austria, and ended on 24 March 2002 in Holmenkollen, Norway. It was the twenty-fifth season of the Biathlon World Cup.

The 2017 Biathlon Junior World Championships was held in Osrblie, Slovakia from February 21 to February 28, 2017. There was a total of 16 competitions: sprint, pursuit, individual, and relay races for men and women.
