Production

Big Night! was directed by Jun Robles Lana and is a co-production by Cignal Entertainment, The IdeaFirst Company, Octobertrain Films, and Quantum Films. [2] Lana decided to use the war on drugs initiated by President Rodrigo Duterte as the setting of his film. Principal photography of Big Night! took place from January 2020 to mid-2020. [3] Community quarantine measures were imposed as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic at the middle of the filming, thus part of the film had to be made under a lock-in set-up. [4] Among the filming locations was the Quezon Institute. [5]

Release

Big Night! premiered on November 25, 2021, at the 25th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia. [5] [6] [7] The film will have its theatrical release in the Philippines on December 25, 2021, as one of the eight official entries of the 2021 Metro Manila Film Festival. [8]

It stars Paolo Ballesteros as Trisha, a trans woman who suddenly died after she was crowned winner of a gay beauty pageant and her friends who transform her into a different person on each night of her wake in a different location as a way to avoid being buried as a man by her father. It also tackles her whole life when she felt and dealt with problems and successes on living as a Filipina transgender as well as controversy in her family.

Christian Mercurio Bables, is a Filipino actor. He was declared Best Leading Actor at the 5th Hanoi International Film Festival for his character "Intoy" in the movie Signal Rock. He was also given a Best Supporting Actor Award at the Gawad Urian Awards for his trans woman character "Barbs" in the movie Die Beautiful.
