William S. Dodge is an American legal scholar working as the John D. Ayer Chair in Business Law at the UC Davis School of Law.
Dodge was born in Nigeria,where his parents were stationed while serving in the Peace Corps. Shortly after he was born,his family returned to the Marin Headlands in Northern California,where Dodge spent the remainder of his childhood. Dodge earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Yale University in 1986 and a Juris Doctor from the Yale Law School in 1991. [1]
After graduation from law school,he served as law clerk for William A. Norris of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals,and then Harry Blackmun of the Supreme Court. In 2011 and 2012,Dodge served as an international law counselor to the legal adviser of the Department of State,Harold Hongju Koh. [2]
Dodge served as acting associate academic dean and professor at University of California,Hastings College of the Law. He is currently a faculty member at the UC Davis School of Law. [3] Dodge's scholarship focuses on international law and business law. He has published at least 21 articles in major law reviews. His article "The Historical Origins of the Alien Tort Statute:A Response to the Originalists" in the Hastings Law Journal has been cited 168 times. [4]

James Joseph "Jim" Tomkovicz is an American educator and legal scholar. He was a professor of law at the University of Iowa College of Law from 1982 until 2021,when he retired from Iowa. While at Iowa he was awarded a chaired professorship,being named the Edward F. Howrey Professor of Law. After his four decades at Iowa,he was appointed Dean’s Professor at the Emory University School of Law for two years,an appointment which ended in 2023. Tomkovicz regularly taught Criminal Procedure,Criminal Law,and Evidence. He authored a number of scholarly works,almost all devoted to constitutional criminal procedure topics. During his career he also authored six amicus curiae briefs in the Supreme Court of the United States in cases raising criminal procedure issues. The cases included Knowles v. Iowa,Florida v. J.L.,Maryland v. Blake,Kyllo v. United States,United States v. Patane and Arizona v. Gant. Tomkovicz was on the winning side in 4 of the 5 cases decided by the Justices. One case (Blake) was dismissed by the Court after oral argument.
Alan E. Brownstein is Professor of Law and the Boochever and Bird Chair for the Study and Teaching of Freedom and Equality at the UC Davis School of Law.
