William Dee McKenny (August 4, 1940 - January 31, 2021) was an American gridiron football player. He played college football at the University of Georgia from 1959 to 1961 and was a member of the 1959 Georgia Bulldogs football team that won the Orange Bowl.
McKenny was born in Slayton, Minnesota, to Charles and Velma McKenny in 1940. The family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, in 1942.
McKenny achieved stardom at Landon High, Jacksonville, Florida, capping his career there by being the MVP for the North squad in the 1958 Florida High School All Star game. He earned All State, AllSouthern, and All America recognition in 1957.
McKenny played varsity football for the University of Georgia from 1959 to 1961 where he played as both an offensive and defensive back. His football honors at UGA included the remarkable feat of being named the Best Defensive Sideback in the SEC and the Best Blocking Back in the SEC in 1961. He was also honored as the Outstanding Bulldog Football Player of 1961. He led the 1961 Bulldogs in rushing, pass receiving and interceptions. McKenny was an alternate captain and competed in the 1961 Blue-Gray Bowl as a representative of the South. In 1961, McKenny was named All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) along with tackle Pete Case. The 1959 Bulldogs were projected to place ninth out of 10 teams in the SEC but won the conference title, earning a trip to the Orange Bowl in Miami. Georgia defeated the Missouri Tigers, 14–0. Fran Tarkenton threw two touchdown passes, one to Aaron Box and one to McKenny. [2]
"Coach Butts put in a special play for Missouri. It was a banana route. The two ends went downfield and broke to the sideline. I drifted through the line of scrimmage and ran a banana route through the space created by the defensive backs. I was wide open. Catching that touchdown pass from Fran Tarkenton remains a big thrill to this day." [3]
McKenny continued his football career with the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played for one year with the Eskimos before being drafted by the United States Army. He did not return to football career after being discharged from active duty.
In 2013, McKenny was awarded the Postgraduate Achievement Award by the University of Georgia Chapter of the National Football Foundation. [4] [5] He now lives with his wife, Kay, in Lawrenceville, GA.
Francis Asbury Tarkenton, nicknamed "the Scrambler", is an American former football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 18 seasons, primarily with the Minnesota Vikings. He played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs, where he was recognized as a twice first-team All-SEC, and was selected by the Vikings in the third round of the 1961 NFL draft. After retiring from football, he became a media personality and computer software executive.
The Florida–Georgia football rivalry is an American college football rivalry game played annually by the University of Florida Gators and the University of Georgia Bulldogs, both members of the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference. The programs first met in 1904 or 1915 and have played every season since 1926 except for a war-time interruption in 1943. It is one of the most prominent rivalry games in college football, and it has been held in Jacksonville, Florida since 1933, with only two exceptions, making it one of the few remaining neutral-site rivalries in college football. Lawrence Harry Munson was an American sports announcer and talk-show host based out of the U.S. city of Athens, Georgia. He was best known for handling radio play-by-play of University of Georgia Bulldogs football games from 1966 to 2008. He also handled the play-by-play for UGA basketball and Atlanta Falcons radio broadcasts and hosted sports-related talk shows.
Uga is the official live mascot of the University of Georgia Bulldogs. Since Uga I's introduction in 1956, every Uga has been owned by the Sonny Seiler family of Savannah, Georgia.
Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium is the on-campus playing venue for football at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, United States. The 92,746-seat stadium is the ninth-largest football stadium in the NCAA, and the 17th-largest such stadium in the world. Games played there are said to be played "between the hedges" due to the field being surrounded by privet hedges, which have been a part of the design of the stadium since it opened in 1929. The current generation of hedges were planted in 2023 after the originals were taken out to accommodate the football tournaments for the 1996 Summer Olympics. The stadium is often considered one of college football's "best, loudest, and most intimidating atmospheres".

Eric Royce Zeier is an American former professional football player who was a quarterback for six seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He was a Heisman Trophy candidate playing college football for the Georgia Bulldogs, setting 67 school records and 18 Southeastern Conference (SEC) records. In 1994, Zeier became the most prolific passer in SEC history as only the third quarterback in NCAA Division I history to throw for more than 11,000 yards in his career. He earned All-Academic S.E.C. honors in 1992 and 1993 and was named UGA Team Captain in 1993 and 1994. He played in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns (1995), Baltimore Ravens (1996–1998), and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1999–2000).

The 2007 Georgia Bulldogs football team competed on behalf of the University of Georgia in American football against teams from other colleges and universities. The Bulldogs tied for first place in the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) but lost a tie-breaker with the University of Tennessee. The team finished its season by defeating the Hawaii Warriors in the 2008 Sugar Bowl. This was the Georgia Bulldogs' seventh season under the guidance of head coach Mark Richt.
The 2006 Georgia Bulldogs football team completed the season with a 9–4 record. The Bulldogs had an SEC record of 4–4. Despite losses to unranked Kentucky and Vanderbilt, Georgia salvaged its season by beating two ranked teams in the last two games of the season: #5 Auburn and #15 Georgia Tech. A victory over #14 Virginia Tech in the 2006 Chick-fil-A Bowl gave the Georgia Bulldogs three consecutive victories over top 25 teams. This was the team's sixth season under the guidance of head coach Mark Richt.

The Bulldogs completed the season with a 12–0 record. The Bulldogs had a regular season Southeastern Conference (SEC) record of 6–0. The Bulldogs completed their season with a 17–10 victory over Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.

Kirby Paul Smart is an American football coach and former player. He is the current head football coach at the University of Georgia, his alma mater. As head coach, he led the Bulldogs to back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022.
Aaron William Murray is a former American football quarterback. He was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at Georgia. Murray currently leads the SEC career passing touchdown list, surpassing Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, and Matthew Stafford.
The 1960 Orange Bowl was the 26th edition of the college football bowl game, played at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida, on Friday, January 1. Part of the 1959–60 bowl game season, the fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) shut out the #18 Missouri Tigers of the Big Eight Conference, 14–0.
